Friends have received 3 free square readers from PayPal which can be used with any smart device. The readers will be used during programs to increase membership or receive donations. Mrs. Rogen asked if anyone could assist the Friends in creating an Instagram and Twitter account. Director's Report Mrs. Garcia distributed a copy of the Summer Reading Club brochure. This year there will be programs for tweens and teens at Garcia, Harte and Neyland Libraries. Attendance at the Children's Book Festival, held at Neyland Library, was rather low at 450. Several major events were being held that day as well as poor weather conditions might have contributed to the low attendance. More adults than children were in attendance. Mr. Keys asked if there was a way to know whether those attending were new patrons. Mrs. Garcia stated that although Neyland staff had stated that some of the attendees where not Neyland regulars there was no way to tell if they were new to the system. It's possible that next year the event will be held at a community venue to promote services to individuals who are not library users. Mrs. Garcia mentioned that the adults with developmental, hearing and visual impairments were participating in a program next door. She stated that they were using iPads which were purchased through the Texas State Library grants. The May newspaper article, by Dr. Mary Gleason, was promoting the Literacy Council at McDonald Library. The June article will be promoting the Summer Reading program. Mrs. Garcia reported that both the Texas Library Association and the Success by 6 conferences provided excellent information regarding services to children. There were approximately 20 day care center children at the City Council reading. Julia Stafford asked if staff could provide her with a flyer and/or form which gives information on how to schedule the mobile planetarium. Mrs. Garcia stated she would email the information. Mrs. Garcia reported that Christus Health Plan will be donating$2500 to purchase 1500 tote bags. The bags will be given to those who complete the Summer Reading Club program. The Friends logo will be on one side of the bag and the Christus Health Plan logo on the other side. New Business Motion to excuse Rachel Buck from today's meeting was made by Sue Donahoe and seconded by Natalie Rogen. Motion passed unanimously. Public Comment None. Meeting adjourned at 12:54 p.m.
