Members Present: Brian Solarek,Abigail Bair,Candace Hart,Juanita Hernandez,Jane Kratzig,Alice Nixon, and Harris Worchel
Members Absent: None
Staff Present: Laura Garcia, Library Director, Norma Gonzalez, Managing Librarian, and Sylvia Sanchez,Secretary
Call to Order: Brian Solarek called the meeting to order at 10:30 a.m.
Approval of Minutes
Motion to approve the November minutes was made by Abigail Bair. Motion was seconded by Candace Hart. Motion passed
unanimously.
Friend's Report
Natalie Rogen's term expired in October 2016. Harris Worchel will be the new Friends representative and will provide a Friends
report at the next meeting.
Director's Report
The City Council should be doing Board reappointments and new appointments on January 24.
There were 180 in attendance at the La Retama Central Yule Ball event. PolkaWorks staff had to cancel the Czech Food
program that was scheduled in January. The Czech Exhibit will be on display until the end of February.
A meeting is scheduled to discuss the K-Space Art Exhibit which will be displayed at La Retama Central in March.
The Sue Stanford Memorial marionette program, Cinderella, will be held on January 19 at Neyland Library at 6:00 p.m.
Mrs. Hart commented on the Corpus Christi historical photo exhibit. Mrs.Garcia stated that the next exhibit will feature
pictures from the 30's and 40's.
The January newspaper article will focus on two new children's literacy initiatives,1000 Books before Kindergarten and 1-2-3-
Grow with Me Family Place.
New Business
The annual report draft was reviewed and suggestions were made. Members agreed that Mr.Worchel and Ms. Nixon would
finalize the report with staff. The report will be submitted to the City Secretarys office by January 15 deadline.
