Members Present: Brian Solarek, Abigail Bair,Juanita Hernandez,Jane Kratzig, Alice Nixon, Leanne Libby, and Harris Worchel

Staff Present: Laura Garcia, Library Director and Sylvia Sanchez, Secretary
Call to Order: Brian Solarek called the meeting to order at 10:32 a.m.
Approval of Minutes
Motion to approve the August minutes was made by Leanne Libby and seconded by Jane Kratzig. Motion passed unanimously.
Friend's Report
Mrs. Garcia reported in Natalie's absence. The Coastal Bend Community Foundation awarded the Friends $3,500;the grant
request had been for$10,000. The original request was for mobile shelving for the teen area at La Retama Central Library,
however, it can be used for other items related to the area since the amount requested was not awarded.
A$1,500 grant to the Texas Humanities will be submitted for a Czech exhibit and programs associated with the exhibit.
The plan is to kick off the RFID fund raising project the week of October 16-22 which is National Friends of the Libraries week.
Director's Report
The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten project will be launched during the October 15 Star Wars Days Read event. The project
promotes reading to newborns, infants and toddlers and encourages parent and child bonding through reading. There is a
reading journal, list of books for a parent to read to their children,worksheets and other learning materials for each child.
The library received a bequest in the amount of$25,000; $5,000 is designated for Neyland Library for large print books and
$20,000 for children's educational materials for the Corpus Christi Public Libraries.
Local groups have donated funds for the Czech exhibit which will be setup October 8 and displayed in the Conference Room for
approximately 3 months.
The Musica del Sur de Tejas/Music of South Texas annual event will be held on October 16 at McDonald Library. This year's
inductee will be Michael Salgado a prominent Tejano singer/accordionist. A local group will be performing as inductees are not
expected to perform.
Due to a failed gutter system and the recent rains, sandbags were placed where water is entering the building at La Retama
Central Library. Repairs on the gutter are expected to start within the next two months.
Staff will be at the Dia De Los Muertos/Day of the Dead event, October 29. They will be doing a children's craft in the Kids
Corner area.
Mrs. Garcia presented the board with information on the library's proposed budget. This information is available on the City's
website (www.cctexas.com), and a hard copy can be viewed at any city public library. Board members stated they are willing
to meet with appropriate individuals to address the importance of adopting the library budget as presented.
New Business
Brian Solarek reported that Rachel Buck has resigned due to job schedule conflicts.
Motion to excuse Natalie Rogen and Leanne Libby from today's meeting was made by Abigail Bair and seconded by Harris
Worchel. Motion passed unanimously.
Public Comment
Dr. Hatcher Chalkley reminded the board members that they can address concerns to city council members in the board's
annual report which is due to council in January. He suggested to emphasis the impact in efficiencies by having the RFID.
