HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Library Board - 03/07/2017 Library Board Meeting Minutes March 7, 2017 Members Present: Brian Solarek, Candace Hart,Alice Nixon, Harris Worchel and Janis Wood. Members Absent: Abigail Bair,Tom Krepel and Jane Kratzig Staff Present: Laura Garcia, Library Director, and Sylvia Sanchez, Secretary Call to Order: Brian Solarek called the meeting to order at 10:42 a.m. Approval of Minutes Motion to approve the February minutes was made by Candace Hart. Motion was seconded by Alice Nixon. Motion passed unanimously. Friend's Report Harris Worchel reported that the Friends received a $4,000 grant and 10 tablets from Capitol One, which will be used for online banking classes for Senior Citizens. Friends are seeking assistance and input from Library and Foundation Board members on fund raising for the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) project. Candace Hart suggested Friends information be placed on date due slips and that large banners be placed at events sponsored by the Friends. Mr. Worchel and Laura Garcia explained how Friends funds are used by the Library. Mrs. Garcia added that half of the donations made to the Friends for the Women's Art Exhibit at La Retama Central Library will go to K-Space for summer camp programs. Director's Report Mrs. Garcia reported that 750 attended the Teen Bookfest and 320 were at Chica's Bonita's art reception. Author, Christina Sendejo and illustrator, Carolyn Dee Flores,will be at the La Retama Central Library April 291h festival which will celebrate books, art and music. The festival will include children's activities in celebration of the Week of the Young Child. Local authors will be invited to have a meet and greet table. A parade and food trucks are being considered for the festival. Two Assistant City Managers (ACMs), Sylvia Carrillo and Samuel "Keith" Selman have been appointed. Keith Selman will be the ACM over the Library. Mrs. Garcia reported that the gutters have been repaired temporarily,with permanent repairs taking place sometime this summer. New Business Motion to excuse Abigail Bair,Tom Krepel and Jane Kratzig from today's meeting was made by Candace Hart and seconded by Alice Nixon. Motion passed unanimously. Public Comment None.
