New Business
Alice Nixon stated that she had received information from the Texas Library Association that President Trump's proposed
budget would eliminate funding for the Institute of Library and Museum Services (IMLS). IMLS is a federal entity which
supports TexShare resources, grants to local libraries, interlibrary loan, summer reading programs, technology assistance and
more. Many communities benefit from this funding and cutting these services would be devastating. Ms. Nixon asked board
members to contact US Senators and Representatives to support funding for IMLS. Ms. Nixon also urged board members to
contact their state senator and representative to support continued funding for the Texas State Library and Archives
Commission (TSLAC) and to oppose Senate Bill 902 prohibiting TSLAC from requiring public libraries to meet some minimum
standards for state accreditation. Additional information about the proposed legislations may be found at txla.org.
Public Comment
