MINUTES
LIBRARY BOARD OF THE
CORPUS CHRISTI PUBLIC LIBRARIES
June 12,2001
MEMBERS PRESENT: Gloria A. Rodriquez, Patty Nuss, Treva Bedwell, Yvonne
Kyistra, Carroll Mathews, Charles Burnes,Margaret Moss, and Sue Stanford.
STAFF PRESENT: Sylvia Sanchez, Executive Secretary.
Ms. Rodriquez called the meeting to order at 1:33 p.m.
Minutes from the May 8,2001 meeting were approved as presented.
FRIENDS REPORT:
I. Ms. Rodriquez read Mrs. Adams report. Ms. Rodriquez announced that Betty Whitt
and Inez Adams were working on the newsletter, which will be mailed next week.
The newsletter will contain news of the summer reading program and other activities.
2. Ms. Rodriquez announced that the Friends received a thank you letter for contributing
to the Children's Book Festival held on May 9, 2001. Ms. Rodriquez added that over
900 children,parents, and caregivers participated.
3. Ms. Rodriquez announced there would be two art exhibits at the Harte Library,
including one by former board member Daryl Tanner.
BUILDING COMMITTEE:
I. Mrs. Nuss reported that the building committee would continue to meet after the
board meeting and would present a report to the board next month.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
1. Mrs. Rodriquez announced that Mr. Canales and Ms. Cortez had received the Sandra
Lanier-Lerma Literacy award for contributions to services to children. Ms.
Rodriquez added that the third annual award would be presented at the School Board
meeting. The first annual award was presented to Dr. Lerma, upon her retirement,
and the second award was presented to Marion Luna Brem.
OLD BUSINESS:
1. Ms. Mathews announced that the Texas Book Festival Event was a great success.
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Ms. Rodriquez announced that today the council was reviewing the general fund
budgets.
The meeting adjourned at 2:06 p.m.
