MINUTES
LIBRARY BOARD OF THE
CORPUS CHRISTI PUBLIC LIBRARIES
December 11, 2001
MEMBERS PRESENT: Gloria Rodriquez, Yvonne Kylstra, Carroll Mathews,
Margaret Moss, Charles Burnes, Robin Carter, and Sue Stanford.
STAFF PRESENT: Herb Canales, Director of Libraries; Sylvia Sanchez, Executive
Secretary.
Mrs. Rodriquez called the meeting to order at 1:30 p.m.
I. Minutes from the September 9, 2001 meeting were approved as presented.
FRIENDS REPORT:
1. Ms. Mathews reported that the Friends' annual meeting on November 4th was very
successful. Ms. Mathews added that Dr. Ron Tyler, Executive Director of the Texas
State Historical Association, was the guess speaker.
2. Ms. Mathews reported that the new officers are: President, Ken Kellar;Vice
President, Clif Moss; Secretary, Betty Whitt;Treasurer, Bill Hennings.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
I. Mr. Canales announced that the two new board members coming in January are Dr.
C. Thomas Cron and Reynaldo Rodriquez. Mr. Canales added they both are retired
from Corpus Christi Independent School District.
2. Mr. Canales presented the board with the six long ranged goals set for the library
years ago. Mr. Canales added that three goals were accomplished and preceded in
presenting the board with other recommendations. Mr. Canales reported that the one
of the main recommendations is expanding Northwest Branch Library.
3. Mr. Canales demonstrate the Old Bayview website. Mr. Canales reported that the
website would be launched with a sesquicentennial event next year. Mr. Canales
recommended to the board that the website be dedicated in memory of Eli T.
Merriman. The board approved Mr. Canales' recommendation.
OLD BUSINESS: None
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Mrs. Rodriquez recommended to the board to continue working on developing and
updating the long ranged plan for the library.
The meeting adjourned at 2:25 p.m.
