MINUTES
LIBRARY BOARD OF THE
CORPUS CHRISTI PUBLIC LIBRARIES
January 8,2002
MEMBERS PRESENT: Patty Nuss, Yvonne Kylstra,Treva Bedwell, Charles Burnes,
Dr. Thomas Cron, Reynaldo Rodriquez, Robin Carter, Sue Stanford and Friends
President, Ken Kellar.
STAFF PRESENT: Herb Canales, Director of Libraries; Sylvia Sanchez, Executive
Secretary.
1. Minutes from the December 11, 2001 meeting were approved as presented.
Mrs. Nuss called the meeting to order at 1:15 p.m.
INTRODUCTION OF NEW BOARD MEMBERS:
1. Mrs.Nuss welcomed Mr. Reynaldo Rodriquez, Dr. Thomas Cron, new board
members and Ken Kellar, President of the Friends of the library.
FRIENDS REPORT:
1. Mr. Kellar reported that the Friends' membership drive is ahead of expectations and
would like to see the Friends membership exceed 350. Mr. Kellar added that any
suggestions from the board to improve membership are welcomed.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
1. Mr. Canales presented the board with the modified long-range goals, and a copy of
the plan to replace the Branch Library at the present site. Mr. Canales added that the
plan is not a design, and that it could be changed or modified at anytime.
2. Mr. Canales reported other long-range goals are: completing the third floor at
Central,redesigning the first and second floor at Central, expanding Northwest, and a
new building on the far Southside.
3. Mr. Canales demonstrated the new Library website.
OLD BUSINESS: None
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Mr. Canales reported that Laurie and Thomas Saylak donated approximately$5,000
in honor of her parents Sue and Walter Stanford.
The meeting adjourned at 2:20 p.m.
