MINUTES
LIBRARY BOARD OF THE
CORPUS CHRISTI PUBLIC LIBRARIES
March 12,2002
MEMBERS PRESENT: Yvonne Kylstra, Margaret Moss,Treva Bedwell, Reynaldo
Rodriquez, and Dr. Thomas Cron
STAFF PRESENT: Herb Canales, Director of Libraries; Sylvia Sanchez, Executive
Secretary.
Minutes from the February 12, 2002 meeting were approved as presented.
Mrs. Nuss called the meeting to order at 1:17 p.m.
FRIENDS REPORT:
I. Mr. Canales presented the board with the flyer promoting the poster of the"Bird's
Eye View";the price per copy is$200. Mr. Canales reported that the flyer would be
mailed to Friends' members. Mr. Canales added that the limited edition of 150 copies
are being produced locally and should be available in approximately two weeks. Mr.
Canales reported that the library would make approximately$20,000 when all posters
are sold.
2. Mr. Canales reported that funds raised from the poster would be used for preservation
of the archival materials. Mr. Canales added that a couple of grants are also being
submitted to help with the preservation.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
1. Mr. Canales reported that the Children's Book Festival would be held at Del Mar
College on May 9111. Mr. Canales added that a book signings would be held in the
evening of May 8th at Parkdale library. Mr. Canales reported that proceeds from the
book signings would benefit next year's festival.
2. Mr. Canales suggested that the board should discuss the budget next month Mr.
Canales reported that an analysis of mold at Central library was done and the findings
were fine. Mr. Canales added that some suggestions were made on preventive
maintenance.
OLD BUSINESS:
1. Mrs. Moss reported that Ms. Adams was admitted to Spohn hospital. Mrs. Moss
suggested that a letter should be mailed and that all board members should sign,or
have the entire board members' name on it. Mr. Canales stated that the
Administration office would mail the letter.
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Mr. Canales reported that Margaret Rose would make a presentation to the board in
Mayor June on the selection of books.
The meeting adjourned at 2:00 p.m.
