HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Library Board - 05/15/2003 MINUTES LIBRARY BOARD OF THE CORPUS CHRISTI PUBLIC LIBRARIES May 15, 2003 MEMBERS PRESENT: Yvonne Krylstra, Patty Nuss, Sue Stanford, Treva Bedwell, Mary Ann McGregor, Charles Burnes, Margaret Moss, Dr. A.N.M. Waheeduzzaman, and Friends President, Ken Kellar. STAFF PRESENT: Herb Canales, Director of Libraries; Sylvia Sanchez, Executive Secretary. Minutes from the April 8, 2003 meeting were approved as written. Mrs. Krylstra called the meeting to order at 1:17 p.m. BUILDING COMMITTEE: 1. Mrs. Krylstra reported that the Building Committee would meet with the architect this week. Mrs. Krylstra added that Beverly Wallace volunteered to be in the building committee. The board approved for Ms. Wallace to be the Chair Emeritus of the Committee. Mr. Kellar announced that Friends board member Judy Pressley would also serve on the committee. FRIENDS REPORT: 1. Mr. Kellar reported that Friends dedication ceremony for the Inez Sterling Adams South Texas Historical Gallery was a great success. Mr. Kellar thanked the board and Retama Club. DIRECTOR'S REPORT: 1. Mr. Canales suggested to the board to visit the library's website to view the pictures of the Children's Book Festival and Inez Sterling Adams South Texas Historical Gallery dedication. 2. Mr. Canales reported that next Tuesday,the mayor would read the proclamation for the Mary and Jeff Bell Children's Library. Mr. Canales would receive a contribution from the Library Foundation in the amount of$15,000, which brings the total to $76,000 for the project. 3. Mr. Canales reported that the City may include some of the library's projects in the 2004 bond. Mr. Canales reported that some of the projects include expanding Northwest Library, building a Southside branch and opening the third floor at Central Library. Mr. Canales added that a decision on prioritizing the library projects will be discussed. 4. Mr. Canales reported that budget process is about to start. 5. Mr. Canales reported that staff is working closely with Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi on reengineering services to children. OLD BUSINESS: None. NEW BUSINESS: 1. Mrs. Krylstra reported that she would call Mrs. Wallace to join the Building Committee and would contact the rest of the members and notify them when the meeting would be held.
