HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Library Board - 12/09/2003 MINUTES LIBRARY BOARD OF THE CORPUS CHRISTI PUBLIC LIBRARIES December 9, 2003 MEMBERS PRESENT: Yvonne Kylstra, Sue Stanford, Charles Burnes,Margaret Moss,Dr. A.N.M. Waheeduzzaman,Dr. Thomas Cron, and Reynaldo Rodriquez. STAFF PRESENT: Herb Canales, Director of Libraries; Sylvia Sanchez,Executive Secretary. Minutes from the November 11, 2003 meeting were approved as presented. BUILDING COMMITTEE: 1. Mrs. Krystra reported that next meeting would be Monday,December 17'", and the main issue being discussed would be adequate shelving for the area and the timeline for the project. FRIENDS REPORT: 1. Mr. Canales distributed the Friends' newsletter and reported that the membership letters would be mailed today or tomorrow. 2. Mr. Canales reported that Patty Nuss left the Library Board due her term ended has joined the Friends Board. DIRECTOR'S REPORT: 1. Mr. Canales reported that the Barbara Silverman would be replacing Patty Nuss on the Library Board as of December 2003. 2. Mr. Canales remained the board that the Rotary Club as its Centennial Project had selected the Greenwood Emergent Literacy Project. Mr. Canales added that currently the Rotary Club has raised approximately$14,000. 3. Mr. Canales reported that the Building Maintenance and Parks&Recreation departments completed the maintenance at the Parkdale Library by removing the storm shutters and worked on the landscaping. 4. Mr. Canales reported that the current library budget is fine. Mr. Canales added that staff would be working adding the moving expenses of the children's area to next year's budget. 5. Dr. Waheeduzzaman reported that he would continue meeting with Mr. Canales on the International Awareness Project and a presentation would be done at a later date. 6. Mr. Canales reported that Patty Nuss would continue working with Carolyn Young on the Gallery Project Committee for the Janet F. Harte Library. OLD BUSINESS: 1. Mrs. Krystra commented that the TXSHARE Database is a great asset for the community. Mrs.Krystra added that the database is one of many information tools SCANNED the library offers. NEW BUSINESS: None The meeting adjourned at 2:40 pm.
