CITY SECRETARY'S OFFICE
MEMBERS PRESENT: Mary Christmas,Janey Cone, Barbara Silverman,
Dr. A.N.M. Waheeduzzaman, Rey Rodriguez, Sue Stanford,Joyce Green, Sam Beecroft,
and Ken Kellar, Friends President.
STAFF PRESENT: Herb Canales, Library Director and Lea Zapata, Management
Assistant
Meeting was called to order by Mary Christmas at 1:17 p.m.
Minutes from the January 9,2007 meeting were approved.
FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY:
1. We are currently working on the Clif Moss Nature Education Center for the
Northwest Branch Library. We have already raised$18,000 for the approximately
$26,000 needed for the bird watching map. A benefit the Center will be at the
home of Patty and Henry Nuss on Sunday, May 6. The guest speaker will be
author Steven Harrigan. The honorary chairs are Margaret Moss and
Phyllis Yoakum.
2. Friends' board members have been speaking to various groups on CC Reads and
the library in general. They have spoken at Trinity Towers,the Friday Morning
Group, and New Neighbors League.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
1. The Parkdale Building Committee meets today at 2 p.m. The million dollar mark
has been reached, and we can expect to have more interest to accrue before
construction begins.
2. We were on hold with the Southside project in regards to the fire panel,but that
has been resolved.
3. The Northwest project is moving forward.
4. Discussed the Library Plan for years 2006-2008. The projection for the Southside
project opening is the summer of 2008. The Northwest project is contracted to be
done by June 2007. A 2008 bond issue for Greenwood is still an option.
Technology is all updated. The Corpus Christi Library Foundation contributed
$20,000 for the purchase of a state-of-the-art archival management system.
OLD BUSINESS:
1. The recommendation was made for Mary Christmas to be the Library Board Chair
and Andrea Naismith to be the Vice Chair. Janey Cone moved to accept the
recommendation. Joyce Green seconded the motion. There was no discussion, and
it was approved by all.
2. Joyce Green made a motion to excuse Andrea Naismith due to illness in her
family. Barbara Silverman seconded the motion, and it was approved by all.

NEW BUSINESS:
1. Barbara Silverman made a motion to appoint Lucy McCracken, subject to her
approval, as the representative for the Southside public art committee. Janey Cone
seconded the motion, and it was approved by all.
2. Joyce Green made a motion to appoint Barbara Silverman as the representative
for the Parkdale public art committee. Sam Beecroft seconded the motion, and it
was approved by all.
3. Herb Canales will submit Janey Cone as a back-up for the Parkdale public art
committee and Joyce Green for the Southside.
4. Mary Christmas passed around the American Library Association Bill of Rights.
5. Sue Stanford reminded the Board of the AAUW Book Sale.
