HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Library Board - 04/10/2007 11r+ V MINUTES RECEIVED LIBRARY BOARD OF THE CORPUS CHRISTI PUBLIC LIBRARIES DEC 0 5 2008 April 10, 2007 CITY SECRETARY'S OFFICE MEMBERS PRESENT: Mary Christmas, Joyce Green,Janey Cone, Barbara Silverman, Rey Rodriguez, Sue Stanford, Lucy McCracken, and Dr. A.N.M. Waheeduzzaman STAFF PRESENT: Herb Canales, Library Director; Dorothea Castanon, Greenwood Branch Managing Librarian; Laura Chapa, Greenwood Branch Children's Librarian; and Lea Zapata, Management Assistant Meeting was called to order by Mary Christmas at 1:17 p.m at the Greenwood Branch Library. Janey Cone made a motion to approve the minutes from the March 13, 2007, meeting. Rey Rodriguez seconded the motion and it was approved by all. FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY: 1. Invitations for the May 6 fundraiser for the Clif Moss Nature Education Center were mailed. There are only three birds left for the birding map. There are 53 host committee sponsorships. 2. The Northwest Branch has received the following donations: Flint Hills has donated $10,000. We will receive $5000 in 2007 and$5000 in 2008 for books, computers, and materials. Judi Cannon has pledged a donation of$10,000. Lyondel has donated$4000 toward computers for the children's area. DIRECTOR'S REPORT: 1. The Northwest Branch Library project is scheduled for completion later this summer possibly August or September. 2. The Parkdale renovations have some bid changes. Dykema Architects Inc. has not finished with the engineering. 3. The Southside Library plans are due to be finalized mid-April. We will possibly go out for bid in the middle of May which may push the groundbreaking to the middle of July. 4. In regards to the Greenwood Branch Library, there has been interest on behalf of West Oso Independent School District regarding a joint library, but this is a good location within walking distance of approximately 10 schools. There have been discussions regarding possibly creating a City civic complex and another police substation near the Greenwood Branch. OLD BUSINESS: 1. Mary Christmas reported that there is a contact with Flint Hills regarding the billboards, but they do not know where the billboards could possibly be located throughout the city. SCANNED Mri NEW BUSINESS: 1. Janey Cone made a motion to place the completion of the Central Library on the 2008 bond issue and renaming it to La Retama Central Library. Barbara Silverman seconded the motion, and it was approved by all. The meeting adjourned at 2:07 p.m.
