MEMBERS PRESENT: Mary Christmas,Janey Cone, Barbara Silverman,
Rey Rodriguez, Sue Stanford, Lucy McCracken, Andrea Naismith, Sam Beecroft, and
Dr. A.N.M. Waheeduzzaman.
STAFF PRESENT: Laura Garcia,Public Services Manager and Lea Zapata,
Management Assistant
Meeting was called to order by Mary Christmas at 1:16 p.m.
Barbara Silverman made a motion to approve the minutes from the May 8, 2007,
meeting. Rey Rodriguez seconded the motion and it was approved by all.
FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY:
1. Friends received the grant from The Big Read and the National Endowment of the
Arts for$5000. The Friends will match the$5000. Mary Christmas,
Treva Bedwell and LaQuita Hilzinger will be traveling to Minneapolis next week
for training. The book Bless Me,Ultima has been chosen for Corpus Christi
Reads.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
I. The Parkdale committee meeting will be today to select the carpet. We hope it
will be the last meeting before we go out on bid and start the project in
September.
2. The bid for Southside will be underway in July with a possible ground breaking in
August. We have $370,000 for books budgeted from the City of Corpus Christi.
3. We are hoping to have the grand opening of the Northwest Branch Library
expansion in August or early September.
OLD BUSINESS:
1. None.
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Andrea Naismith made a motion to skip the July meeting and to hold the August
meeting at the Northwest Branch Library, unless a conflict with the construction
arises. Sam Beecroft seconded the motion, and it was approved by all.
The meeting adjourned at 1:39 p.m.
