CITY SECRETARY'S OFFICE
MEMBERS PRESENT: Mary Christmas,Janey Cone, Dr. A.N.M. Waheeduzzaman,
Rey Rodriguez, Sue Stanford, Barbara Silverman, and Sam Beecroft.
STAFF PRESENT: Laura Z. Garcia, Public Services Manager and Lea Zapata,
Management Assistant
Meeting was called to order by Mary Christmas at 1:16 p.m.
Dr. Waheeduzzaman made a motion to approve the minutes from the September 11,
2007, meeting with adjustments. Janey Cone seconded the motion and it was approved
by all.
DIRECTOR'S REPORTS:
1. The City Council is voting to update the change to name the Parkdale Library to
the Anita&W.T.Neyland Public Library.
2. Southside committee met with the Corpus Christi I.S.D. to discuss the
groundbreaking which will be any time now. It will likely open fall 2008. The
Texas State Library and Archives Commission is giving a grant for $25,580 for
books. We have $470,000 towards books which leaves us approximately
$180,000 short.
OLD BUSINESS:
1. The Big Read and CC Reads have been a tremendous success. They are currently
collecting poetry and artwork for a contest.
2. Mary Christmas informed us Early Bird Reader Program is currently ongoing. It
has a book drive currently being held for books appropriate for children around
Pre-K age. Books can be donated at any library or Corpus Christi I.S.D. school.
3. Barbara Silverman has agreed to serve another term. Lucy McCracken and
Andrea Naismith will be contacted to see if they will consider serving another
term. The board members will ask people to fill out an application to serve on the
Library Board.
NEW BUSINESS:
1. The Children's Book Festival is schedule for April 4, 2008.
2. Beverley Wallace has asked to appoint Sue Stanford to the Southside Building
Committee. Ms. Stanford requested that the discussion be tabled until the next
meeting.
