MEMBERS PRESENT: Mary Christmas, Michael Flores, Lucy McCracken,Andrea
Naismith, Sue Stanford, James Martin, Harriet Nelson, and Roel Carmona
STAFF PRESENT: Laura Z. Garcia, Public Services Manager, and Lea Zapata,
Management Assistant
GUESTS: Barbara Head and Hatcher Chalkley
Meeting was called to order by Mary Christmas at 1:15 p.m.
Roel Cannona made a motion to accept the September 9, 2008, minutes. Andrea
Naismith seconded the motion, and it was approved by all.
FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY:
1. There was a large attendance at this year's Big Read kickoff. They will also have
a booth at Bayfest.
2. The Children's Book Festival will be held next year on April 17. The committee
has just begun meeting to select books and authors.
DIRECTOR'S REPORTS:
1. The Dr. Clotilde P. Garcia Public Library budget is good. There should be a
balance remaining which will be transferred to pay for roof repairs to the Janet F.
Harte Public Library. We plan to move into the Garcia Library at the end of
December. We will have interviews next week for the Children's Librarian and
Circulation Supervisor.
2. The contingency funds for the Anita& WT Neyland Public Library are being
used to replace outdoor electrical poles.
OLD BUSINESS:
1. Michael Flores made a motion to approve the change to Ordinance 2-75 with the
correction to the typo"2-79". Dr. Carmona seconded the motion, and it was
approved by all.
2. Andrea Naismith made a motion to recommend a clarification on the wording for
Ordinance 2-78 to change"Corpus Christi"to"City of Corpus Christi and Corpus
Christi Public Libraries"and to include"a three (3) year term or until a successor
is appointed." Lucy McCracken seconded the motion, and it was approved by all.
NEW BUSINESS:
None.
A motion to adjourn the meeting was made at 1:52 p.m. by Mr. Flores. Ms. McCracken
seconded the motion, and it was approved by all.
