HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Marina Advisory Committee - 04/05/2010MINUTES Regular Meeting Marina Advisory Committee Monday, April 5, 2010 JUL 16 2010 CITY SECRETARY'S OFFICE Members Present: Marie Adams, Robert Cagle (1), Roy Pell, Hal Suter and Dr. Robert Vega (1) Members Absence: John Adams (1), Dan Leyendecker (1), Rakesh Patel (2) and Nils Stolzechner (2) Staff Present: Peter M. Davidson, Marina Superintendent, Rene Garza, Marina Field Supervisor, and Benita Brunner, Management Aide Call to Order: Chairman Pell called the regular meeting of the Marina Advisory Committee to order at 5:34 p.m. Action on Minutes: The motion was made by Dr. Vega, seconded by Mr. Cagle, to approve the Minutes from the 02/01/10 Regular Meeting as presented. The motion passed unanimously. Presentations and/or Public Comment: J. J. Hart, David Loeb, Mark Minutaglio and Ron Benavides gave a brief overview of Destination Bayfront, a grass roots conservancy - type organization promoting the pursuit of public/private funding to develop, design, operate and maintain approximately 27 acres along the downtown bayfront in which to locate a veterans memorial and mixed-use of multi -purposed venues i.e. restaurants, entertainment, cultural activities, etc. for residents and tourists such as has been accomplished in Houston, Texas, Chattanooga, Tennessee and Detroit, Michigan Discussion Items and Possible Action Thereto: World Kite Board Championships — Mr. Davidson gave a brief overview of the event which Mr. Stolzlechner pursued relative to the availability of grant monies. The event will occur outside the Breakwater during the Boat Show. Prize packages up to $25,000 will be awarded to participants from all over the world. Mr. Davidson expressed thanks to Mr. Stolzlechner for his efforts to this regard. Texas Parks & Wildlife Marine Grant and Boat Ramp Update — Mr. Davidson commented that this item was off the March 2010 agenda relative to there having been $500,000 available with a 25% match requirement. There are currently plans to work toward obtaining grant monies to repave the L -Head parking areas. Oil and Gas Committee Liaison — Ms. Adams had no update. Marina Advisory Committee -1- 04/05/10 Friends of the Corpus Christi Municipal Marina — Chairman Pell reported the lengthy application process is being pursued through a local CPA for the IRS's 5010 designation and that the current funding balance is $14,540.86 as of 02/26/10. Director's Report: Mr. Davidson commented and/or reported on: (1) the Texas International Boat Show progress; (2) Texas Gulf Coast Melges 24 CCYC Update; (3) Marina revenues, expenditures and occupancy; (4) installation of safety ladders around the Marina; (5) working toward getting a Texas International Boat Show program for dissemination; and (6) Marina staffing. Mr. Davidson introduced Nelida Ortiz and her husband Dr. Fernando Ortiz of the Columbus Ship Association and thanked them for their efforts relative to the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria. Their fund raising efforts will begin with the sale of bricks to be placed in a Veterans Memorial in Sherrill Park. Identify Items to be Placed on Next Agenda: Chairman Pell requested that Destination Bayfront's base resolution be offered to the Committee for consideration and vote of support at the next meeting. Confirmation for Next Meeting is: May 3, 2010. Adjournment: As there was no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:03 p.m. Peter M.
