Marina Advisory Committee
Monday, June 4, 2012
Members Present: Capt. Ron Behnke (1), Curt Broomfield (1), Robert Cagle (2), Roy
Pell, Hal Suter (1) and Dr. Robert Vega
Members Absence: John Adams (2), Dan Leyendecker (2) and Capt. Monte Reitz (2),
Staff Present: Peter M. Davidson, Marina Superintendent, Rene Garza, Marina Field
Supervisor and Benita Brunner, Management Aide
Call to Order: Chairman Pell called the regular meeting of the Marina Advisory
Committee to order at 5:30 p.m.
Action on Minutes: The motion was made by Mr. Broomfield, seconded by Dr. Vega, to
approve the Minutes of the 05/07/12 Regular Meeting as presented. The motion passed
unanimously.
Presentations and /or Public Comment: Blue Jay Presley commented about working
with Dusty Durrill toward corporate sponsorships of additional Seawall benches to
prevent skateboarder sliding /scuffing of the top step and using collected funds to
encourage cleanliness. Discussion followed regarding signs that may be available through
the Parks and Recreation Department or seeking pet suppliers' sponsorship for methods
to dispose of large animal waste.
Discussion Items and Possible Action Thereto:
Harbor Ferry - Terry Klinger commented about the Regional Transit Authority having
successfully addressed the most recent concern regarding trash removal and briefed
and /or answered the Committee's questions regarding RTA's historic and continuing
efforts to improve public transportation ridership including placement of a ticket booth
(considering sales of other merchandise) at the Peoples Street Harbor Ferry location to
expedite ticket sales and on -water transportation to /from Port Aransas. Mr. Davidson
commented that their efforts are in the interest of enhancing the Bayfront and qualifying
for Grants available for waterborne transportation with the potential to encourage
tourism.
Update New Marina Office Financing and Design — No update available at this time.
Committee /Staff Reports: Oil & Gas Committee Liaison — Capt. Behnke commented
that he was interested in pursuing the unmarked pipeline located on the City side of
Corpus Christi Bay, past Seven Sisters, heading toward Packery except that he had not
provided the GPS coordinates by whomever indicated at the last meeting they would
provide. Discussion followed regarding the USCG Auxiliary's remapping having verified
such obstructions in Corpus Christi Bay and their findings having been submitted to
AIDS to Navigation for documentation on new charts and efforts being needed to address
the existing gap for permits to locate underwater pipelines.

Friends of the Corpus Christi Municipal Marina — Chairman Pell commented about being
in the process of compiling a solicitation letter and mailing list with which to approach
corporate sponsors for Marina projects. Mr. Davidson commented that the City Manager
had directed that the priority be revised to put replacement of R -Pier before the Corpus
Christi Lighthouse. Chairman Pell commented about the opportunity to advertise the
Marina, Market Days, the Lighthouse project, etc. during the live Channel 3 interview on
Thursday, June 7, 2012 in four segments scheduled for 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
Director's Report: Mr. Davidson or Mr. Garza commented on and /or answered
questions regarding: (1) Phase II Express, fishing boat, having been sold and relocated to
Port Lavaca; (2) revenues /expenditures /occupancy doing well; (3) the need for continued
efforts encouraging use of Marina fiiel service which offers ethanol -free gas currently
only to in -water vessels (Capt. Behnke will advertise it in his next publication); (4)
scheduled 06/29/12 removal of office trailers; (5) successful June Market Days; (6) the
five -level candied jalapeno eating contest scheduled for one year anniversary event, July
7 th ; ( 7) Friends of the Marina's 5016 supporting potential revenue for sale of beer at the
July 7 th Market Days; and, (8) providing report on Marina restaurants revenues.
Identify Items to be Placed on Next Agenda: Mr. Broomfield suggested there is need to
locate a throw buoy or rescue pole in bulkhead areas where pubic fishing occurs.
Confirmation for Next Meeting is: Monday, July 2, 2012.
Adjournment: As there was no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:21 p.m.
