Members Absent: none
Staff Present: Rene Garza.Marina Field Supervisor; Leah Hughen, Management Aide
Call to Order: Chairman Broomfield called the regular meeting of the Marina Advisory Committee to order at 5:34
P.M.
Action on Minutes: The motion was made by Ms. Emerson and seconded by Mr. Smith to approve the minutes of the
03/06/17 regular meeting;the motion passed unanimously.
Presentations and/or Public Comment: Patricia Dominguez from Leadership Corpus Christi at Del Mar College was
present to observe the meeting.
Discussion Items and Possible Action Thereto:Corpus Christi Marina District Foundation odat : Ms. Baen explained
that the foundation had a preliminary meeting to discuss future fundraising and grants. Meetings are set for the second
Wednesday of every month at 5:30 p.m.at Harrison's Landing. Ms. Emerson will email the list of officers to John Bell.
Marina Search and Rescue Services: Mr. Broomfield expressed concern that the search and rescue operation has become
too costly for the Marina to upkeep due to being an enterprise fund. Mr. Broomfield proposed that a general fund
department takeover such as the Fire Department or Police Department. Mr. Paulison volunteered to head a sub-
committee to examine search and rescue calls and expenses to find a reasonable alternative whether it be Coast Guard or
Port Police. Mr. Broomfield volunteered to assist Mr. Paulison on the sub-committee. Discuss options to rill empty
Advisory board position: Mr.Garza advised that Landry"s corporate headquarters denied Michael Davila's request to
join the board, but a manager at the new Blimpie at Best Western is interested in joining a board. Marina Board Retreat
2017: Ms.Emerson volunteered to use the agenda from the last retreat to draw up a new one. Ms. Emerson and Ms.
Hughen will set up a Doodle poll to schedule the retreat.
Committee/Staff Reports:none
Director's Report: Mr. Garza commented on and/or answered questions regarding: Marina revenue, expenditures and
occupancy. Mr. Garza advised that rescue boat 3807 will be back in the water by the end of the week, 3806 will be
coming out of the water for maintenance, and staff is working on repairing decking on Peoples Street. Mr. Garza
explained that we're working on a pilot project,a bed and breakfast vessel, to bring in more revenue.
