Marina Advisory Committee
Monday, December 4, 2017
Members Present: Mona Baen, Bob Paulison, Ron Smith, Sharon Emerson, William McDowell, Hal Suter,
Martha Avery, Clare Lee
Members Absent: Curt Broomfield
Staff Present: Peter Davidson, Marina Superintendent; Rene Garza, Marina Field Supervisor
Call to Order: Ms. Lee called the regular meeting of the Marina Advisory Committee to order at 5:34 p.m.
Action on Minutes: The motion was made by Mr. McDowell and seconded by Mr. Paulison to approve the
minutes of the 11/06/17 regular meeting; the motion passed unanimously.
Presentations and/or Public Comment: none
Discussion Items and Possible Action Thereto: Discussion for the future replacement of the Coopers Alley
Boaters' Facility and Public Restroom: Mr. Davidson advised we have plans for a new facility,but no funds at
present. Mr. Davidson explained that due to having transient boat slips on Coopers Alley the Marina may
qualify for a boaters' facility grant to partially cover the cost of a new facility. Mr. Davidson advised that
before beginning a new project the debt from building piers on Peoples Street and Coopers Alley must be
mostly paid off. Discussion and consideration of docks to be replaced in the future: Mr. Davidson advised that
L Pier and Morf Pier will need to be replaced eventually. Mr. Davidson explained he and Corpus Christi
Yacht Club members have a meeting scheduled to discuss the L Pier reconstruction cost and funding efforts.
Discussion and vote to elect new Marina Advisory Committee Chairman: Ms. Lee called for a vote to elect a
new chairman and vice chairman. The board unanimously voted Mr. Paulison as the new chairman and Ms.
Emerson as the vice chairman.
Committee/Staff Reports: Mr. Paulison congratulated Ms. Emerson on a successful Harbor Lights event.
Ms. Emerson advised that planning for Harbor Lights 2018 will begin in August to hopefully bring more
attention and participants to the illuminated boat parade.
Director's Report: Mr. Davidson commented on and/or answered questions regarding: Marina revenue,
expenditures and occupancy. Mr. Davidson commended Mr. Garza and Marina staff on repair efforts post
Hurricane Harvey.
Identify Items to be placed on Next Agenda: Presentation on the 2018 World Youth Sailing Championship,
Corpus Christi Marina District Foundation update
Confirmation for Next Meeting is: Monday, February 5, 2018
Adjournment: As there was no further business,the meeting was adjourned at 5:57 p.m.
