HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Marina Advisory Committee - 02/05/2018 MINUTES Regular Meeting Marina Advisory Committee Monday, February 5, 2018 Members Present: Bob Paulison, Ron Smith, William McDowell, Hal Suter, Martha Avery, Gerry Morrow Members Absent: Clare Lee, Mona Baen, Sharon Emerson Staff Present: Rene Garza, Dock Master; Leah Hughen, Management Aide Call to Order: Chairman Paulison called the regular meeting of the Marina Advisory Committee to order at 5:31 p.m. Action on Minutes: The motion was made by Mr. McDowell and seconded by Mr. Smith to approve the minutes of the 12/04/17 regular meeting; the motion passed unanimously. Presentations and/or Public Comment: Ray Madrigal of the Corpus Christi Coffee Club made a presentation to have a statue of Pancho Villa erected in the People Street Circle. Discussion Items and Possible Action Thereto: Corpus Christi Marina District Foundation update: Mr.Paulison tabled this item for the next meeting due to the absence of Sharon Emerson. Presentation on the World Youth Sailing Championship by Martha AverX: Ms. Avery advised that Corpus Christi will be hosting the first World Youth Sailing Championship in the U.S. since 1996. The event will bring nearly 500 youth sailors from 80 nations to Corpus Christi from July 14-21st Ms. Avery explained the Corpus Christi Yacht Club is working with the Convention and Visitors Bureau, the City, and several other organizations to make the event a success. The Convention and Visitors Bureau estimates the economic impact to be over $1,000,000. Discuss outcomes from presentation to City Council regarding Old Shoreline Blvd: Mr. Garza informed the board that he met with Corpus Christi Yacht Club and the Art Center of Corpus Christi to come up with an amicable solution for event parking behind the Art Center. The solution is shared usage between all entities and open lines of communication. Marina staff will have a key to the gate to open it for boat transport, CCYC events, and Art Center events. Discuss plan for replacing dock at Corpus Christi Yacht Club: Steve Hastings of the Corpus Christi Yacht Club presented the board with the preliminary plans for a new pier. The plans include a floating structure to house a sailing center, a floating pier with 28 slips in varying sizes with a ramp for board boats, and the possible replacement of the sunfish dock. To avoid construction during the major events this summer and make time for fund raising CCYC is looking to have the pier completed by summer 2019. Mr. Hastings estimated the cost of construction to exceed$1,000,000. Committee/Staff Reports: Mr. Garza explained Marina will be conducting repairs in order to freshen up the appearance of the Marina prior to summer events. The cost of repairs will come out of reserves to be replaced once storm insurance money comes in. Director's Report: Mr. Garza commented on and/or answered questions regarding: Marina revenue, expenditures and occupancy.
