HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Marina Advisory Committee - 06/03/2019MINUTES Regular Meeting Marina Advisory Committee Monday, June 3, 2019 Members Present: William McDowell, Ron Smith, Donnell Laux, Robyn Cobb, Gerry Morrow, Mona Baen Members Absent: Hal Suter, Richard Bell, Martha Avery Staff Present: Gina Sanchez, Marina Superintendent; Leah Hughen, Management Aide Call to Order: Chairman McDowell called the regular meeting of the Marina Advisory Committee to order at 5:30 p.m. Action on Minutes: The motion was made by Mr. Laux and seconded by Mr. Morrow to approve the minutes of the 5/06/19 regular meeting; the motion passed unanimously. Presentations and/or Public Comment: Marina tenant Mike Saenz requested an open bulletin board for tenants looking to buy or sell boats and boat parts. Discussion Items and Possible Action Thereto: Auxiliary Coast Guard Boating Safe1y Presentation: Lee Harrison and Charles Dekle with the Coast Guard Auxiliary presented the Coast Guard's new phone application. The app makes boating safety and regulations more accessible to boaters. The app also provides an emergency alert that puts you in direct contact with the nearest Coast Guard station. Auxiliary Coast Guard and Coast Guard will hold a press conference on the Lawrence Street T -head in June warning of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning, another conference in July will detail hurricane safety. Hurricane Preparedness: Ms. Sanchez advised the Marina has distributed a hurricane preparedness packet to tenants offering hurricane information, safety tips, mooring diagrams, and a preparedness checklist. Committee/Staff Reports: Mr. Laux advised the jazz fundraiser planned for July 4th'has been postponed until Labor Day due to the Marina District Foundation formation being incomplete. Ms. Baen reported the Arts committee met with Dianna Bluntzer from the Corpus Christi Art Center. Ms. Bluntzer will meet with artists and put together budgets and RFPs. A grant through the "Our Town" organization may be available for funding. Director's Report: Ms. Sanchez advised the Marina's first community gathering, a potluck, has been postponed until August 3rd. Toastmasters will host a ribbon cutting at the People Street boaters' facility on June 6th. Senior Marina Specialist Carl Miniex retired on May 31St after working at the Marina for 29 years. Contractor Meeco Sullivan will begin repairs from Hurricane Harvey damage to several docks the week of June 3rd. Corpus Christi Police Department has stationed a Skycam on the Coopers Alley L -head for security during three regattas taking place in June; La Regata Que No Importa June 8th through 91h, Surfin Safari Regatta June 15th through 16th, and the Etchells World Championship June 201h through 30th Identify Items to be placed on Next Agenda: Regatta outcome update Confirmation for Next Meeting is: Monday, July 1, 2019 Adjournment: As there was no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:59 p.m. Gina Sanchez Marina Superintendent Marina Advisory Committee 6/4/19
