Regular Meeting
Marina Advisory Committee CITY SECRETARY'S OFFICE
Monday, October 5, 2009
Members Present: Dan Leyendecker (3), Rakesh Patel (3), Roy Pell (1), Nils
Stolzlechner (4), Dr. Robert Vega (1), John Adams (2), Marie Adams (4), Hal Suter (1)

Staff Present: Peter M. Davidson, Marina Superintendent and Benita Brunner,

Call to Order: Chairman Pell called the regular meeting of the Marina Advisory
Committee to order at 5:32 p.m.
Action on Minutes: The motion was made by Mr. Adams and seconded by Mr.
Stolzlechner, to approve the Minutes from the 07/06/09 Regular Meeting as presented.
The motion passed unanimously.
Presentations and/or Public Comment: Cary Stotland commented: (1) that the wireless
service is fabulous; (2) that the cockroach problem appears to be under control; (3) about
the need to expedite installation of ladders to provide easy access out of Marina waters;
(4) parking concerns easing with summer season end; (5) the need for dredging at the
entryway; (6)
Discussion Items and Possible Action Thereto:
Oil and Gas Committee Liaison — Ms. Adams had no update.
Friends of the Corpus Christi Municipal Marina Liaison — Mr. Pell had no update.
Director's Report: Mr. Davidson commented and/or reported on: (1) Marina revenues
going well; (2) tightening down expenditures; (3) Marina occupancy; (4) advertising
efforts; (5) Marina's worldwide exposure resulting from successful Open Water Swim —
which included Olympian swimmer - hosted in Marina; (6) greatly reduced attendance at
Kemah boat show; (7) his attending Marina Association meeting due to Marina's again
vying for the 2009 Clean Marina of the Year and 2009 Marina of the Year award; (8)
host venue for National Association of Boating Law Administrators and States
Organization for Boating Access fish fry; (9) status of floating debris collection design;
(10) it being easier to work with other city department heads since becoming the Marina
Department; (11) progress on irrigation systems and Marina grounds having benefitted
when Fire Department released water onto grassy areas when clearing fire hydrants; (12)
meeting with new Police Chief; (13) status of recycling efforts; (14) status of installing
ladders throughout the Marina Complex; (15) Marina benefitting from expertise of Mark
Chinoy who is providing expertise in considering future plans for the Marina; (16) efforts

to advertise/fill vacant Marina Staff positions; (17) Columbus Ships; (18) Marina
providing best venue for events given easy access to downtown lodging, restaurants,
entertainment, etc. within easy walking distance; (19) efforts to secure an on-site fuel
provider; and (20) status of installation of additional security (cameras; keys).
Discussion followed regarding session at which to brainstorm best practices, donation
programs, to identify stakeholders (i.e. Columbus Fleet, etc.), etc. Mr. Stolzlechner, on
behalf of The Omni, to provide refreshments and host the meeting. The session will begin
at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at The Glass Pavilion at The Omni.
Chairman Pell suggested that all Marina Staff, on their regular daily rounds, carry, offer
and discuss with Marina customers entry forms for the 2009 Harbor Lights Illuminated
Boat Parade scheduled for Saturday, December 5, 2009.
Mr. Adams commented on the Blucher Institute having submitted a proposal to the City's
MIS Department as stimulus to pay to expand the current wireless system which will
allow that the current weather stations be upgraded and offered in various areas around
the City. Mr. Adams also suggested that the City/Marina needed to discourage uses of
Styrofoam in favor of paper products being used by vendors, etc.
