HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Marina Advisory Committee - 11/02/2009MINUTES Regular Meeting Marina Advisory Committee Monday, November 2, 2009 s RECEIVEE FEB CITY SECRETARY'S OFFICE Members Present: Robert Cagle (4), Roy Pell (1), Nils Stolzlechner (4), Dr. Robert Vega (1), John Adams (2), Marie Adams (4), Hal Suter (1) Members Absence: Dan Leyendecker (4) and Rakesh Patel (4) Staff Present: Peter M. Davidson, Marina Superintendent and Benita Brunner, Management Aide Call to Order: Chairman Pell called the regular meeting of the Marina Advisory Committee to order at 5:34 p.m. Action on Minutes: The motion was made by Dr. Vega and seconded by Mr. Stolzlechner, to approve the Minutes from the 10/05/09 Regular Meeting as presented. The motion passed unanimously. Presentations and/or Public Comment: None offered. Discussion Items and Possible Action Thereto: Committee Appointments — Reporting that the City Secretary's Office had advised that all Committee members were eligible for reappointment as of 12/18/09, Chairman Pell polled the Committee to determine that all would like to be reappointed. Chairman Pell commented, relative to comments about plans being to stagger Committee terms that he would check with the City Secretary. Oil and Gas Committee Liaison — Ms. Adams had no update. Friends of the Corpus Christi Municipal Marina Liaison — Chairman Pell asked the Committee to review the distributed "Corpus Christi Municipal Marina Draft Development Assessment" compiled after their meeting with Mark Chinoy of The Regis Group. Discussion followed regarding considering how other marinas are successful, forming subcommittees to consider best methods to address identified issues, making Marina more attractive (greenery, etc.) to year-round (things to do) users/visitors, using the Marina successes to assist the City toward betterment, funding required to realize identified needs, as Elyssa is offered by Galveston, future plans for use of the Columbus ships, etc. Chairman Pell asked that Committee members review the draft and be ready to discuss such at the next meeting scheduled for 7:30 a.m. on November 13, 1009 and hosted compliments of Mr. Stolzlechner at the Omni Marina. Director's Report: Mr. Davidson commented and/or reported on: (1) out of 600 Texas marinas, Corpus Christi Municipal Marina receiving the Marina of the Year and the Marina Advisory Committee A- SCANNED 11/02/09 i Clean Marina of the Year awards; (2) much free publicity resulting from Marina Dock Age articles regarding its having awarded, for September/October 2009, the Corpus Christi Municipal Marina the Clean Marina thus being considered for the Marina of the Year award; (3) retirement of Sally Gavlik; (4) working toward remedying the Marina's having been working short staff for over one year, working toward hiring three Marina Staff including two night guards; (5) national magazine article having reported on the Open Water Swim being hosted locally and that the Marina offers opportunities to live aboard; (6) appreciation to Mr. Stolzlechner and Omni for hosting so as to support Committee efforts and local events; (7) Marina occupancy not being negatively impacted by economic matters; (8) Marina Revenues/Expenditures going well; (9) Marina promoting its services during the Texas International Boat Show; (10) working with City Administrator to ensure that Marina's receipt of awards and being its own Department are indicated/included on the Marina website; (11) status of request for proposals relative to fuel station; (12) status of Landry's lease; (13) 12/05/09 Harbor Lights and the Illuminated Boat Parade; (14) that following tenant complaints about Landry's after hour illegal pumping into the Marina, TGLO and USCG were contacted and sampled such immediately adjacent to Landry's; and (15) Friends of the Marina actively participating in the website owned by the Marina/City.
