III. Public Comment: Stacey Barrera with State Representative Solomon Ortiz,Jr office briefed the committee on their
(Ortiz and State Representative Abel Herrero,Jr's "Get Fit Challenge" Website is www.getfitcorpuschristi.com , several
city wide and FREE fitness activities including flag football games, and Zumba classes.
David O'Connell briefed the Committee on his history with the Olympic Training Center and encouraged the
Committee to bring back the Open Water Swim. O'Connel also advised that he wishes to bring a Sports Commission
back to Corpus Christi.
IV. Business for Discussion with Possible Action
■ Background of Governor's Advisory Council on Physical Fitness-S.Elliff asked that each Committee member
provide a brief introduction of who they are,their representation and their motivation for being on the
Committee. R. Hayley gave a background on the Governor's Advisory Council on Physical Fitness and his position
as the Governor's Liaison to the Committee.
■ Define Community Assessment-A. Rowe advised that the second phase of the grant to be submitted to the
Governor's Advisory Council on Physical Fitness for S85,000. The application called for the Committee to define
core areas of concentration. J. Bell suggested the Committee adopt those similar to community assessments that
had been completed by area community health groups, including the local American Diabetes Association and
American Heart Association. Those are: Overall Health, Motivation of Community, Fitness Infrastructure and
Access, Research and Evaluation. S. Elliff encouraged the Committee to adopt this as the Mayor's Fitness
Council's Overall Organizing Structure and that each subcommittee or working group should plan to address these
elements in regards to their positions on the Committee.

S. Elliff also suggested that A. Rowe brief the Committee at the July meeting about the submitted grant
application budget.
• Outline Committee and Subcommittee Tasks-S. Elliff advised that a task of each Committee member was to
establish a "working group" or subcommittee which would focus on their liasionship. Also, that the next meeting
the Committee would develop an establishment of priorities, ideas for events for the coming year and develop a
manageable list of priorities.
V. Identify agenda items to be placed on next agenda: Fit and Free presentation, Budget brief, Establishment of Priorities
for Committee.
