IV. Business for Discussion with Possible Action
o Fit and Free Presentation- Cinia Montoya presented Fit and Free by the Sea, a city wide six month long
weight loss challenge and asked the future support from the Council to partner and promote the event.
Montoya reported over 1,000 people have signed up for the Challenge. Second weigh in to occur on July 24.
Their group intends to put together a Restaurant Guide that would include healthy menu items and a
Children's Cooking Class. Fitness classes would be ongoing at Cole Park. All work is done through
subcommittee work. Chair Elliff acknowledged Ms. Montoya's enthusiasm. Dr. Campos asked specifically
what type of support Fit and Free was requesting of the Council. Ms. Montoya asked for"partnership and
monetary support." V. Garza asked for clarification of partnership and monetary support and information
on the status of the 501c3. Ms. Montoya said that she was still pursuing 501c3 status and introduced her
partner Javier Colmanero. Montoya expressed that she felt there had been some confusion about the
inception of Fit and Free and that it appeared the media was promoting it as a City endeavor. Moving
forward she asked that it be clear that Fit and Free was not an event initiated by the City or the Council. On
Dec 11, there would be 6 categories of winners.
o Establishment of Priorities-S. Elliff asked that the Council fill out three post it notes, answering the
question: What can we say we've done in a year? What would we like to do in a year? What has the
Council accomplished in a year? Answers attached.

o Governor's Advisory Council on Physical Fitness Update- R. Hayley announced that Corpus Christi was
judged excellently in Phase 2 of the Governor's Advisory Council on Physical Fitness. We were the first of 9
cities to be awarded $85,000 for the remainder of the fiscal year.
o Mayor's Fitness Council Grant Submission Budget-A. Rowe presented a breakdown and copy of the phase
2 grant submission. Chair Elliff asked that all the Council have an ongoing budget line item on future Council
agendas. R. Kinnison asked M. Rose about conflicts of interest and needing more information on the topic.
M. Rose suggested that the City Secretary's Office present at next month's meeting.
o Logo Design-A. Rowe presented the Clean City Committee and PRIDE logo to the Council. Council moved to
maintain the aesthetics of Mayor Adame's strategic projects and voted to adopt a similar logo with the word
"HEALTHY" in place of"PRIDE" and "CLEAN." T. Fitzpatrick and Fr.J. Lopez to present Council's action to
PRIDE.
o Committee and Subcommittee Tasks-S. Elliff outlined the following subcommittees:
