VI. Business for Discussion with Possible Action:
A. Fitness Coalition—Potential Partnership with Junior League of Corpus Christi
MFC directed Talbert to work with JLCC (Stephany Schade)to develop a plan
Spenst asked to be included in the meetings
B. Update on MFC 5K Walk and Run (Rodney Brown)
Mayor will be in attendance from 8:30 to 9:30
C. Development of MFC Sponsored Kite Festival
11/9 from 11-3 at Cole Park
Cook working with PARD staff, kite pilot to develop layout for event
Subsequent volunteer list will be developed (assignment for coordination leads to be made)
D. Grant Application for Bikes Belong Initiative
Application brought to attention of MFC by Brown via email. Up to$10K for collaboration between
govt, business and volunteers to create a program or build facilities for bicycles. Group discussed
partnering up with existing initiative since application is due May 24. Three initiatives discussed:
downtown bike rack project; Oso Creek Park bike trail development; BMX park. Due to the projects
ability to meet most of criteria for points MFC chose Oso Creek. Talbert will contact stakeholders and
have application for review in May meeting.
VII. Chairman's Report
Review website needs. Bios, updated letters. Will have presentation in May. Talbert to send out web
address so MFC can review
VIII. Staff Liaison's Report
A. MFC Restructuring Initiative -approved by city council will take hold in May. Hernandez and
Peterson to be considered for MFC.
B. Community Action Plan Update - need to update goals for September
C. Hike & Bike Trail Signage—Salinas Park. Designs for MFC to review in June or July.
D. Texas Lions camp—request to promote on Facebook. Camp for children with diabetes and
other disabilities.
E. US Surgeon General's Call to Action on Walking—asked MFC to make comments on website.
