III. Approval of Minutes of January 9,2014 Lapointe motioned; Peters seconded; all in favor
IV. Public Comment
Visitors from the Texas A&M CC nursing program
Shannette Hoelscher and Aaron Villalobos from the Catholic Charities of CC—Long Live Texans
V. Presentations and Possible Action
A. Alliance for a Healthier Generation—Fancy Flores
Program founded by the American Heart Association and the Clinton Foundation focused on
reducing the prevalence of childhood obesity by working with Schools, Out-of-School time
programs (Boys &Girls Club national partnership), Food & Beverage companies (McDonalds—
happy meals modification to milk and juice;fruits and veggies), Medical Community. Fanny
services as the program's health coordinator for Schools in the Central/South Texas region.
Works with Richard Torres and Jody Houston to work on meal program, community gardens,
overall wellness. AHG resources are free on line—www.healthiergeneration.org. We can help
by spreading the word about their resources and programs—particularly the youth ambassador
program. Handout provided.
MFC voted to partner with AHG to share resources and contacts. Peters motioned; Cook
seconded; all in favor.
B. City Wellness Program—Annette Rodriguez
Nueces County Corpus Christi Health Department received a $7million grant to address
childhood obesity and diabetes in the community. Director felt staff needed to walk the walk
so started a wellness program in conjunction with Driscoll Hospital. Staff can get measured in a
BOD POD (measures weight, muscle,fat and bones and other stuff)then start on a regiment of
healthy eating and exercise. Annette offered MFC members opportunity to participate in the
program and asked MFC to help promote program and provide fitness tips for participatnts.
Handout provided.
VI. Business for Discussion with Possible Action:
A. Adoption of Healthy Business Partners Logo and Tool Kits
Handouts provided. Stacie introduced star logo and tool kits produced in conjunction with
Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi that will give businesses cues and tips for the three pillars
addressed in the program (nutrition, exercise,tobacco cessation).
MFC voted to accept logo and partnership. Garcia motioned; Peters seconded; all in favor.
