Roll Call of Members— Present Spenst Hayley Peters Richardson Cook Lapointe Garcia Hernandez Not Present Brown Staff Talbert Anaya III. Approval of Minutes of February 13,2014 Richardson motioned; Peters seconded; all in favor IV. Public Comment—N/A V. Presentations and Possible Action A. Events and Program Partnership Review and Approval • It's Your Life Foundation Ante Tobacco 5K Walk& Run Presentation and Possible Approval for Advantage Partnership Request—Diane Kaiser from Christus Sphon presented information on IYLF, the (Conquer and IChews initiatives of the group. The event will feature many partners of the MFC, have only water,fruits and veggies offered as snacks, and of course no smoking. School participation is free and all participants receive an Ante Tobacco book. MFC will need to have a booth at the event. Hayley motioned to approve a Advantage Partnership; Peters seconded; all in favor • The Power Walk for Dress for Success Peters motioned to approve a core partnership; Hernandez seconded; all in favor. • 10K Challenge with NCCAA Peters motioned to approve a core partnership; LaPointe seconded; all in favor. B. Community Action Plan Goal #2 • Review of Smoke Free Park and Zones Signage and Planning Effort • Possible Partnership with Project Hope Iris Martinez with the Coastal Bend Wellness Foundation represented group. PH got funding in 9/2013 to promote tobacco use cessation/prevention. Requested a letter of support;Talbert Anaya to sit on their advisory committee. PH is interested in creating smoke free parks,will partner with MFC on initiative. Hernandez suggested group work with King and Kaffie schools. Martinez indicated they are working through CIS and hosting conversation cafes with students in the morning. Also did a poster contest with students; Yo—say no Bro. Haley motioned for approval of partnership with PH; LaPointe seconded; all in favor VI. Business for Discussion with Possible Action: A. 2014 Kite Festival Planning - November 8 or 15 Talbert Anaya to determine if Cole Park is available on those dates); Cole Park; need to establish sponsorship levels;vendor fees and who is free (partners of MFC; sponsors); FREE event open to the public; Cook is the lead coordinator; Richardson will serve on planning committee. Stick with original logo—it's a brand VII. Chairman's Report— Meeting with Mayor Martinez and representative from TAMUCC Nursing School. MM looking for a community wide initiative that will produce a measurable win towards health and fitness. Lapointe is going to research efforts in other cities. Spenst to put together a draft program. Several members voiced concern that the initiative might not have sticking power and needs 100%support from council members to be successful. Each member is going to give the project some thought and come back to Spenst with suggestions. VIII. Staff Liaison's Report A. Commit to Health Pledge—Parks and Recreation Department—Health and Physical Activity Standards for out of school programs. Big effort—going to take a swing at it. B. Texas Healthy Communities Recognition Program - measuring efforts to curb stroke and heart attacks in CC. C. Healthy Business Partners Program—members going through own businesses and testing themselves. Need to develop criteria in which N/A is okay(no stairs, no kitchen or break room, etc.) IX.
