HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Mechanical/Plumbing Advisory Board - 08/16/2012 - SpecialMINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING Mechanical/Plumbing Advisory Board Thursday, August 16, 2012 Time: 2 p.m. 2406 Leopard St., Corpus Christi, Texas 78408 Development Services First Floor, Executive Conference Room I. Call to Order Meeting was called to order at 2 p. m. II. Roll Call Board Members Present: Sean Rodriguez, Gilbert Canales, Clinton Bailey, Stacey Gallagher, Ronald Klepac, Billy Largin, David Mathews and Julio Sanchez Board Members Absent: Bruce Hawn, Jim Mokry and Karim Salighedar City Staff Present: . Steve Van Patten and Catherine Garza III. Address Absences from Regular Board Meeting of July 12, 2012 Mr. Hawn was not present to address this absence.. His absence will be addressed at the next regularly scheduled meeting. IV. Approval of Minutes from Regular Board Meeting of July 12, 2012 Mr. Mathew's made a correction to the minutes. He would like to state for the record that he was indeed present at the above mentioned meeting. With that correction in place, Mr. Mathew's made the first motion to approve these minutes. Mr. Klepac made the second motion; all were in favor. V. Discussion and Possible Action Regarding the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code At this time Mr. Garrett Dorsey, III, .a South Texas Energy Consultant, gave a power point presentation regarding the 2009 IECCIIRC Performance Testing Requirements. VI. Discussion and Possible Action Regarding Section P3005.2.6, Base of Stacks, 2009 International Residential Code The Board was presented with an informal staff report consisting of numerous Texas cities which have amended this codes section. The Board reviewed the report and compared each city. The consensus of the Board leaned toward, adopting the language from Ft. Worth, TX. Mr. Rodriguez made the first motion to use the same language from Fort Worth, TX and Mr. Klepac made the second motion. All were in favor to amend as follows: P3005.2.6 (708.3.4) Upper Terminal Base of StacL Each horizontal drain shall be provided with a cleanout at its upper terminal ^nk =...,s +o ^r soil stad Exception: Cleanouts may be omitted on a horizontal drain less that five (5) feet (1524 mm) in length unless such line is serving sinks or urinals. Discussion and Possible Action Regarding the 2009 International Mechanical Code, 2009 International Fuel Gas Code and 2009 International Residential Code Concerning Combustion Air for Gas Water Heaters and Furnaces The Board would also like to request that City staffprovide an informal report on this item to compare if other . Texas cities have experienced any issues and what they have done to resolve the problem; to determine if they will need to take action /recommendation. .. VIII. Discussion and Possible Action Regarding a Recommendation to the City Manager Concerning Job Classifications for Development Services Plumbing/Mechanical Inspectors The Board did not take any action on this item but would like to keep it on next meeting's agenda. IX. Building Official's Report A. Department Updates Mr. Van Patten informed the Board of the upcoming continued education class for Plumbers will be held on Saturday, August 18` B. Staffing Mr. van Patten informed the Board that the new Building Official, John Speights, will begin this coming Monday along with a Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector and Plans Examiner. X. Public Comment No one addressed the Board during public comment. XI. Identify items to be placed on next Agenda The Board requests that items seven and eight remain on the agenda for the next scheduled meeting. XII. Adjournment Mr. Mathews made the first motion to adjourn the meeting and Mr. Rodriguez seconded. Meeting adjourned at 3:20 p.m. Presiding Officer
