MECHANICAL/PLUMBING ADVISORY BOARD
MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 19, 2002

The meeting was called order by Chairman Ronald Klepac at 3:05 p.m. The next item of
business was roll call.
The next item of business was passing out hard copies of the 2000 International Plumbing
Code,2000 International Mechanical Code,2000 International Fuel/Gas and the 2000 International
Fire Code for discussion. Chapter I will be mailed out along with the Residential Code The October
will go into a full scale discussion. We will have a textbook with all of the energy code requirement
that will be placed in the building code. In November the code will be adopted. In the October's
meeting the Board can decide about the November&December's meeting. Questions were asked
about the Lawn Sprinkles and Irrigation Systems.
The next item of business was the Building Official report. Mr. Sosa stated that the City
Manager reaffirmed the target date for moving into the Frost Building December 2002 . Mr. John
Kendall was appointed as acting Building Official until end of the year. Staff will continue to look
for a building official, staff changes,put on more people and still advertising for the Sr.Mechanical
• Inspector. Maybe talking to Lelland Kirbow about part time.

The next item of business was discussion of board members concerns regarding new
business, pending new business,old business and items for future agenda. There was none.
The next item of business was petitions from the audience. There was none. Motion made
to adjourn the meeting, seconded by all and passed unanimously. The meeting adjourned at 3:15
p.m.

SECTION 506
EXHAUST OUTLETS
506.1 Termination. Exhaust outlets for ducts conveying
noxious gases, flammable vapors, corrosive vapors, and
ducts serving commercial food cooking and processing
equipment, shall terminate outside the building and shall be
located 10 ft(3048 mm)from any adjacent building,parking
area, adjacent property line, window, door, or air intake
opening and shall be located at least 10 ft(3048 mm)above
the adjoining grade level. Every exhaust outletwhich is
located above the roof shall terminate at least 40 inches

(1016 mm)above the roof surface.The airflow from exhaust
outlets conveying grease-laden vapors shall be in a vertical
direction away from the roof surface. Where this is not
possible,a metal pan at least 1 inch (25.4 mm)deep shall be
• provided on the roof surface to catch grease residue.
506.2 Recirculation. The exhaust from hoods serving
commercial food heat-processing equipment may terminate
in an approved engineered air recovery system for
recirculation to the room in which the hood is located.
506.3 Exterior fans.When exterior fans are located outside
the roofline, they shall be provided with safe access and
work surface as required for heating equipment in Chapter 3
to allow inspection,maintenance and cleaning.
