HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Mechanical/ Plumbing Advisory Board - 09/11/2003 VjuAli City of MECHANICAL/PLUMBING _ _ COITUS ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES a Christi September 11,2003 WV Board Members Present: Robert Knowles, Chairmain Red Akin Mody Boatright, Vice Chairman Daniel Graf Patrick Scarpulla Kevin Kemp John Tucker, Jr. Scott Corliss Bob Hughes Board Members Absent: Sam Beecroft and Herman Johnson Jr. Staff Members Present: Art Sosa, Building Official Joseph Elliott, Plumbing Team Leader Joseph Harney, City Attorney Julie McCoy, Recording Secretary The meeting was called to order by Chairman Knowles at 2:20 p.m. The first order of business was roll call. Mr. Herman Johnson Jr. and Mr. Beecroft were absent. The next item of business was the introduction of the new board member, Mr. Bob Hughes. Mr. Hughes is the current owner of Hughes Can Do, and he specializes in heating and air conditioning. The next item of business was approval and/or correction of the minutes from the previous meeting (August 14, 2003). Motion made by Mr. Corliss, and seconded by Mr. Scarpulla to accept the minutes as submitted. Mr. Corliss was gone on business at the last board meeting and had asked to be excused for his absence. Motion made to excuse Mr. Corliss for his absence on August 14, 2003 was made by Mr. Scarpulla, and seconded by Mr. Red Akin. The motion passed unanimously. The next item of business was the review and discussion of the second reading of the Council Agenda. The purpose of a second reading was to introduce and adopt the 2003 Fire Codes. All codes have now been approved by the City Council and will become effective in 30 days after the approval date (October 9, 2003). Joe Elliott, Plumbing and Mechanical Chief, stated that the inspectors would not move on enforcement until October 9, 2003. Mr. Elliott also stated that any permits or progress on the ground at this time would not be affected by the new codes. Now if plans were reviewed under the old code, then we would need to stay with those procedures. Development Services P.O. Box 9277 • Corpus Christi,Texas 78469-9277 • (361)880-3240 ti Mechanical/Plumbing Advisory Board Minutes Page 2 The next item of business was the Building Officials Report: Development Services/Building Inspections will perform outreach presentations covering the Building Code, Residential Code, and the Flood Hazard Prevention Code. Brown bag sessions will also be held during the lunch hour. TDI is currently writing a rule to be put in the Texas Register for public comment for 30 days. The City of Corpus Christi will start doing windstorm inspections January 2004. Chapter I was approved by City Council with the adopted codes. A separate fee ordinance was also created, and all codes are now available on the website. The next item of business was board member and staff discussion of any pending, or old business to be put on future agenda: Scott Corliss suggested changing the start time of the board meetings until later in the day, so that it would not interfere with other business. The board's decision was not to change the meeting time. The time shall remain the same. Chairman Knowles stated that if any board members wanted to receive announcements via email, they now have that option. Email addresses could be turned in to Julie McCoy. The next item of business was discussion of any new items to be put on the agenda: There were none. The next item of business was petition from he audience: There were none.
