RECOMMENDATIONS OF APPLICANCES INSTALLED IN GARAGES by: Joe Elliott
Questions asked by a board member:
If the City is currently operating under the International Residential Code, do other Plumbing
codes come into play? There are conflicts with regard to elevation requirements in the IRC,
Plumbing Code, and Mechanical Code.
Response by Joseph Harney, Assistant City Attorney:
If a code has been adopted you start there. If there is a conflict, maybe discretionary provisions,
the strictest code would apply or take precedence.
Comments by Joe Elliott:
• Electric water heaters are being referred to as an ignition source.
• When the new code is adopted, everyone will be educated. We will find that there are
going to be conflicts between the manufactures and the new code.
• The City's Fire Marshall was asked how many fires are caused by water heaters on a
yearly basis, and his response was between three (3)and four(4)caused by fumes.
• The City currently holds a membership with the International Code Council, and as
members, we can call ICC and get assistance with questions that we have free of charge.
Comments made by the board:
• Recommend building up water heaters to 18"
• More fires have been caused by lawn mowers and busted hoses than water heaters
• We have a state plumbing license, why don't we have a state code?

DEMONSTRATION OF THE WIRELESS PC TABLET by: Joseph Elliott
• Stated that there was no wireless radio installed in the side of the building where the
meeting was being conducted.
• WIFI went live a week ago and the city is becoming more saturated with wireless
hotspots.
• Customers can now use the CLICK2GOV website to access city permit results, schedule
inspections, cancel inspections, and obtain access to our permanent record system.
• With this system, you can also schedule inspections from one day to one week in advance
if necessary.
• The system currently allows 18 inspections to be scheduled.
• Customers being able to access the website for inspections will alleviate confusion at the
fax machine and free up the Caller Times recorder.
• Selectron is also part of the HTE system, where you can hear inspection results and
schedule inspections.
• Contractors are suggested to call in and fax requests for more security of scheduled items.
• Apologized to board for not being able to demonstrate the Wireless PC Tablet.
• City of Corpus Christi is the first major municipality doing WIFI.
How soon is the City going to move away from the fax machine?
Response: Never.
