Mr. Marek expressed concern regarding P g g gray water standards. He added that
he had contacted the City Water Department and had spoken to James Dodson,
Regional Water Director regarding the usage of gray water. He added that Mr.
Dodson had stated that it was illegal to use gray water. Mr. Marek explained
he had also contacted Senator Truan's office regarding the approval of House Bill
346 which became law in May 1993, permitting under certain situations the use of
collecting water from clothes washing machines, showers, bathtubs, and hand
washing lavatories. Mr. Marek added that the City does not have any criteria in
the City Standards that precluded someone from using gray water.
Mr. Marek suggested that the board ask the City to address and clarify the
issue since a water shortage is expected in the future, state law supersedes City
law and that the City establish standards to collect gray water.
Mr. Miller responded that the board would have to recommend a change to the
code and that it would be a City decision to set standards.
Mr. Hurst expressed concern regarding pipes being allowed by the code below
a beam that would result in the weakening of beams.
Mr. Kirbow responded that he had reviewed the subject with SBCCI staff in
Alabama and that they had clarified that if the requirements for piping under
beams was proposed to be modified a code change would be required. Mr. Kirbow
read Section 405.1 of the Standard Plumbing Code regarding Structural Safety.
Mr. Murray informed the board that most of the furnace manufactures were
not allowing the use of any plastic venting due to cracking.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:40 p.m.
