HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Senior Companion Program Advisory Committee - 01/26/2012Senior Companion Program (SCP) Advisory Committee Regular Meeting Thursday January 26, 2012 4:00 p.m. Lindale Senior Center 3135 Swantner Dr., Corpus Christi, TX MAY 19 2012 CITY SECRETA OFFICE Members of the audience will be provided an opportunity to speak during the meeting. A recording is made of the proceedings. You must first identify yourself by name and address. Then state your point as briefly as possible when addressing the committee. Presentations will be limited to three (3) minutes. Any person who plans to attend this meeting and may need accommodation is requested to contact the Parks and Recreation Department at (361) 826- 3147 at least 48 hours in advance so that the appropriate arrangements can be made. Minutes I. Call to Order- Meeting was called to order at 4:07 p.m. by Monica Rodriguez. II. Roll Call of Members - Members present: Marie Partington, Shirley Selz, Shirley Tipton, Isabel Odeh, Monica Rodriguez, Martha Wilde and Debbie Crites and Stephen Isenhour, visitor from Legacy Hospice. III. Approvals of Minutes- Minutes were approved with correction of adding Apolonia Cantu to the roll call of members for previous meeting and correction of spelling of Martha Wild's last name. Shirley Selz motioned and Shirley Tipton seconded motion. IV. Actions on Absent Members- Apolonia Cantu was absent and excused. V. Public Comment: No Public Comment Please be advised that the Open Meetings Act prohibits the Senior Companion Program Advisory Committee from responding and discussing your comments at length. The law only authorizes them to do the following: 1. Make a statement of factual information, 2. Recite an existing policy in response to the inquiry; or 3. Advise the citizen that this subject will be placed on an agenda at a later date. 4. Discuss ways about fundraising for the Program. VI. Beyond the Call of Duty and Companion of the Year Awards - Award went to Joe Nesmith. VII. Christmas Party- There was a couple of Senior Companions who were not happy with the food that was served at dinner, the cost for bringing a guest, nor the location. Seniors voted to have party with only the Senior Companions. VIII. Surveys- Martha Wild motioned to allow third parties, such a RSVP to call on and complete surveys to provide consistency and objectiveness. Isabel Odeh seconded motion. IX. Plans for Recognition Event- Broadmore Center are still suggested as place to hold event in order to keep costs down. Date of event will be on May 31, 2012 X. New Business for Discussion and Possible Action: 1. Stephen Isenhour would like to become a member of the Senior Companion Advisory Board. Bio has already been turned in. mer XI. Agenda for Next Meeting - 1. Update on status for completing surveys. 2. Updates on Recognition Event plans and costs from Central Kitchen. 3. Update on Ordinance to increase members from 7 to 9. XII. Meeting was adjourned at 4 :5 0 p.m. by Monica Rodriguez
