Senior Companion Program(SCP) Advisory Committee
Regular Meeting MAY 08 2013
Thursday,November 8, 2012 4:00 p.m.
Lindale Senior Center CITY SECRETARY'S OFFICE
3135 Swantner Dr., Corpus Christi, TX
Members of the audience will be provided an opportunity to speak during
the meeting. A recording is made of the proceedings. You must first identify
yourself by name and address. Then state your point as briefly as possible
when addressing the committee. Presentations will be limited to three (3)
minutes.Any person who plans to attend this meeting and may need
accommodation is requested to contact the Parks and Recreation Department
at (361) 826-3147 at least 48 hours in advance so that the appropriate
arrangements can be made. _
Minutes
I. Call to Order- Meeting was called to order at 4:05 p.m. by
Monica Rodriguez.
II. Roll Call of Members- Members present: Marie Partington,
Shirley Selz, Shirley Tipton, Isabel Odeh, Monica Rodriguez,
Debbie Crites and Stephen Isenhour, visitor from Legacy
Hospice.
III. Approvals of Minutes- Minutes were approved with corrections
by Shirley Selz motioned and Isabel Odeh seconded motion.
IV. Actions on Absent Members- Martha Wild and excused.
V. Public Comment: No Public Comment
Please be advised that the Open Meetings Act prohibits the
Senior Companion Program Advisory Committee from
responding and discussing your comments at length. The law
only authorizes them to do the following:
1. Make a statement of factual information,
2. Recite an existing policy in response to the inquiry; or

3. Advise the citizen that this subject will be placed on an
agenda at a later date.
4. Discuss ways about fundraising for the Program.
VI. Thanksgiving Dinner- Event to be held at Lindale Senior Center
on the Thursday, November 15, 2012 from 12:30p-2:30p. Lisa
Oliver, representative with Senior Community Services will
present in-service after lunch is served. Central kitchen is
preparing meal at $6.50 a plate. Door prizes requested.
VII. Christmas Party- Party will be held at Mirador retirement
community on December 11, 2012 from 4-6pm. Martha Wild is
no longer with Mirador, but Debbie Crites met with Vanessa
Hancock. Vanessa and Debbie met at Mirador, and looked at
venue where party will take place. The food, table decorations
and decorated Christmas tree will all be provided free of charge
to Companions.
VIII. Christmas Entertainment- Stephen Isenhour will provide
karaoke machine. And a game called, "Pass the Gift" will be
played. Debbie Crites to provide gifts to pass around.
IX. Door Prizes- Seniors and guests may participate in small gifts
such as ornaments but only Seniors will be eligible for door
prizes and large gifts.
X. Mirador Foundation Donation- The Mirador will be presenting
Debbie Crites a check for $10,000 to the Senior Companion
Program on December 4, 2012. The Mirador is also requesting
to become a Volunteer Station.
XI. Transportation to Christmas Event- Transportation to and from
bus stop at Staples/Timbergate will be provided.
XII. Agenda for Next Meeting-
1. Update on status of upcoming Christmas event.
2. Picnic-2013
