Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at approximately 4:09 p.m.
all Call of Members: Members present: Monica Rodriguez,Tami Longino, Isabel Odeh,
Shirley Tipton,Shirley Selz and Martha Wild. Members absent: Brian Rosas—the absence was
excused. Staff present: Debbie Crites. Non-Member attendees: Apolonia Cantu.
Approval of Minutes: Minutes from the May 23,2013 meeting were presented. A motion was
made and seconded (Seitz/Longino)to accept the minutes as presented. Motion carried.
Public Comment: Members of the audience were provided an opportunity to speak during the
meeting. They were advised to identify themselves first by stating their name and address.
They were advised that the Open Meetings Act prohibits the Senior Companion Program
Advisory Committee from responding and discussing your comments at length. The law only
authorizes them to do the following:
1. Make a statement of factual information,
2. Recite and existing policy in response to the inquiry;or
3. Advise the citizen that this subject will be places on an agenda at a later date,
4. Discuss ways about fundraising for the program.
There were no public comments.
New Business for Discussion and Possible Action:
Discuss New Board Appointees: Debbie Crites announced that the City Council voted to accept
Tami Longino and Brian Rosas to serve on the SCP Advisory Council. They will replace Marie
Partin on and Apolonia Cantu whose terms of service have expired. Committee members
welcomed the new members.
Upcoming Events: Debbie Crites presented the schedule of upcoming events. She announced
that there will be a Fall Festival at Ben Garza Gym on October 291h. She also announced that
the Thanksgiving luncheon is once again scheduled for the Thursday before Thanksgiving on
November 21st. The central kitchen will provide the lunch. Debbie explained that Mirador has
offered to host this year's Christmas party for a second time. She informed the committee that
staff would like to give the companions a$20 gift certificate from H-E-B. However,the city
policies and procedures prohibit the purchase of gift certificates. Therefore,gifts will be
purchased instead.
