Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at approximately 3:30 p.m.
Roll Call of Members: Members present: Tami Longino, Isabel Odeh, Shirley Tipton, Brian
Rosas. Members absent: Monica Rodriguez,Shirley Selz, Martha Wild—the absences were
excused. Staff present: Debbie Crites. Non-Member attendees: Apolonia Cantu and Stephen
Isenhour.
Approval of Minutes., September minutes were not presented.
Public Comment: Members of the audience were provided an opportunity to speak during the
meeting. They were advised to identify themselves first by stating their name and address.
They were advised that the Open Meetings Act prohibits the Senior Companion Program
Advisory Committee from responding and discussing your comments at length, The law only
authorizes them to do the following:
1. Make a statement of factual information,
2. Recite and existing policy in response to the inquiry; or
3. Advise the citizen that this subject will be places on an agenda at a later date,
4. Discuss ways about fundraising for the program.
There were no public comments.
New Business for Discussion and Possible Action:
Upcoming Events., Debbie Crites announced that she did not attend the Fall Festival due to
emergency surgery. However,she said that everyone said it was great. The Thanksgiving
Luncheon is scheduled for noon, November 21't at Lindale Recreation Center. Everything is
scheduled. The Christmas Party is scheduled for Thursday, December 18th. Debbie will
purchase actual items for gifts due to the fact that the City prohibits purchasing gift cards. She
announced that the RSVP Director will roll play as a game show host—Let's Make a Deal. She
will give the companions a choice to pick a gift off the table or to take a gift from someone else.
All of the gifts will remain wrapped until the companion is no longer playing the game.
Beyond the all of Duty Awards: Debbie Crites announced,that based on the votes she
received from Committee members, Emma Cisneros won the 1st quarter award and Yolanda
Robinson won the 2nd quarter award. The committee will vote on the 3rd and 4th quarter
winners at a later date.
Items for next agenda:
Debbie Crites announced that there would not be a December meeting due to the fact
that she ill be having surgery on ece er 23rd and will be out 4-6 weeks of work.
