New Business for Discussion and Possible Action:
Committee Member Absences— Debbie Crites stated that she had left another message for
Monica Rodriguez as instructed at the last meeting. However, she has not returned the call.
The committee decided, with regret, to consider her non-responsive action as her intent to
resign from the committee. The committee would like to express they gratitude for the years
that Monica has been committed to the committee and to SCP. Her involvement has
strengthened both the program and the Advisory Committee.
Committee Appointments—At this time, the committee has two vacancies due to Brian Rosas
resignation and the removal of Monica Rodriguez. Veronica Suniga has completed the required
paperwork to serve on the SCP Advisory Committee. She is currently attending the meetings as
a non-member. She is committed to the program and would be an asset to all involved. She
has expressed her desire to fill one of the vacant positions. It was a unanimous decision by the
committee to follow-up with the City Secretary's office and inform them of the committee's
desire to have her appointed to the committee. Debbie Crites was asked to find out what is
needed in order to have Veronica Suniga appointed to serve on the SCP Advisory Committee.
Upcoming Event— Ms. Crites reminded committee members about the Holiday Party that is
scheduled from 3:00— 6:00 p.m. at the Omni on December 17th. She also stated that it's time
to decide what SCP is going to do for the National MLK Day of Service. After a discussion, the
committee decided to gather socks and toiletries for residents of a nursing home. Ms. Suniga
stated that she has a friend who works at one and she would talk to her about providing this
service to the residents. SCP volunteers will be asked to gather items, stuff bags and hand them
out the day of the event.
Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service—Debbie Crites announced the 2015 event is
1h
scheduled for March 7 . She explained that the Mayor did a proclamation declaring last year's
event, April 1, 2014, as the official Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service. A breakfast
was held for SCP, RSVP and FGP volunteers. Ms. Crites explained that last year's event was paid
for with some extra funding; however, that funding is not available this year. She pointed out
that she would like to ask the Mayor and City Council Members to be Senior Companions for a
