New Business for Discussion and Possible Action:
Committee Appointments— Debbie Crites stated that we cannot have Veronica Suniga
appointed to the committee until the City Secretary's office receives additional applications.
She encouraged everyone to ask someone if they are interested in being on the SCP Advisory
Committee. If so, instruct them to go to the City of Corpus Christi web-site and complete the
application. Ms. Crites pointed out that the person applying needs to note they would like to
be on the SCP Advisory Committee.
Holiday Party Update— Ms. Crites announced that the Holiday Party was a big success. The
Companions said it was the best party ever. She pointed out that it will be very hard to go back
to having a party elsewhere. They were happy with the music, food, door prizes and their gift.
The gift this year was a $10.00 gift certificate donated by H-E-B. Ms. Crites stated that a group
of ladies who attend/teach crochet at Michaels donated 9 beautiful quilts for the event. One of
the other favorites was taking pictures in front of the tree. Sherry Dubois suggested renting a
Photo Booth next year. She called to find out how much the Port of Corpus Christi paid for
theirs and it was $645. She pointed out that the rental includes hats, boa's glasses and other
items to take pictures with and printing the pictures.
MILK Day of Recognition— Ms. Crites informed the committee that Veronica Suniga is checking
to see what time will be best for the committee and companions to be at Trisun Nursing Home
on Cantwell Street to hand out the care bags on January 19th. She is also finding out how many
men and women there are so we have the correct amount of bags. She announced that the
companions have done a wonderful job collecting items. The committee counted how many of
each item has been donated so the committee could purchase more if needed. It was decided
t"
to stuff the bags at 10:00 a.m. on January 16
Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service—Debbie Crites announced the 2015 event is
scheduled for April 71h. She stated that she and Ericka will be meeting with Mayor Martinez on
January 191h to discuss plans for this year's event.
Fundraising Event—The committee discussed the future fundraising event. After a discussion,
they decided they would like to continue with the plans with or without a partnership of RSVP.
Ms. Crites was asked to invite her friend, who helps with the Taft event, so the committee can
develop a timeline.
