Chaparral Corpus Christi,TX 78401 Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at approximately 3:30 p.m. Roll Call of Members: Members present: Tami Longino, Isabel Odeh, Shirley Selz, and Sherry DuBois, Shirley Tipton. Members absent: none. Staff present: Debbie Crites. Non-Member attendees: Veronica Suniga. Approval of Minutes: No minutes were presented New Business for Discussion and Possible Action: Committee Appointments— Debbie Crites announced that the recommendation to appoint Veronica Suniga to the SCP Advisory Committee will go before the City Council on March 24. She also stated that if Veronica Marcello can get her bio completed and submitted on line to the City Secretary's office they will take her recommendation on the 24th also. A motion was made and seconded (Odeh/Tipton) to recommend Veronica Marcello to be appointed to the SCP Advisory Committee. Motion carried. Mayor's Day of Recognition for National Service -- Ms. Crites announced that the proclamation will be read at the City Council meeting on March 3151. She stated that all of the SCP volunteers will be notified to attend the presentation. She also stated that Ben Alamprese, our grant officer from CNCS in Austin will also be attending the presentation. She explained that the Mayor has committed to be a SCP/RSVP volunteer for one hour on April 7th from 9-10 a.m. Three City Council members have also signed up to participate the week of the 7th. A press release has already been drafted. Beyond the Call of Duty Award—A discussion was held regarding the votes for the 151 and 2nd quarters. It was decided that Maria Armadillo would be the 151 quarter and Lena Young is the winner of the 2nd quarter. Debbie Crites was asked to call Ms. Knox to verify the nomination for Christine Head. Spring Picnic— Debbie Crites announced that the Spring Picnic is scheduled in the courtyard of Heritage Park on May 281h. A RSVP volunteer will cook hamburgers and hotdogs. We will once again ask Roy Tipton to be our entertainment. Ms. Crites pointed out that she can no longer pay for any type of entertainment with grant funds. Therefore, she will find another resource. Recognition Event— Debbie Crites announced the Recognition Event is scheduled for June 251h at Lindale Senior Center. Isabel Odeh suggested that we get the companions to write down something they had done in the early years and then have the entire tables guess which companion did whatever was read. Shirley Selz mentioned there are several ways to play the game. We will set the rules at the next meeting. Public Comment: Members of the audience were provided an opportunity to speak during the meeting. They were advised to identify themselves first by stating their name and address. They were advised that the Open Meetings Act prohibits the Senior Companion Program Advisory Committee from responding and discussing your comments at length. The law only authorizes them to do the following: 1. Make a statement of factual information, 2. Recite and existing policy in response to the inquiry; or 3. Advise the citizen that this subject will be places on an agenda at a later date, 4. Discuss ways about fundraising for the program. There were no public comments. Next Meeting—The next meeting is scheduled for 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 12 to discuss fundraiser and the SCP Committee meeting is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. May 4, 2015.
