New Business for Discussion and Possible Action:
Fundraising Income Report— Debbie Crites reported according to her numbers, the event
profited $7,500. However all of the records have been given to another Senior Community
Services staff member to confirm. Even though there was not an official critique of the event,
the Advisory Committee felt it was successful. They did express their disappointment regarding
no table tents on the table listing the sponsors. They also felt the volunteers stated taking the
tables and chairs down too soon. They felt they were being rushed to take their decorations
off—when many of the items had to be wrapped due to breakage. The official critique will be
set for another date.
Ordinance—The required meeting dates and times in the present ordinance were discussed. It
has been determined that present meetings being scheduled based on the best date and time
for the committee proves to have a greater success for having a quorum. The committee
discussed whether or not it is necessary to submit a change to the ordinance to the City
Council. After careful review, the committee decided there was no need to change the meeting
information because it states:
The committee shall meet at least once each month and meet on the call of the chairperson or
of a majority of its members.
Special Events -- Ms. Crites reported the Senior Companion Thanksgiving luncheon went very
well and everyone enjoyed being together. Tami Longino stated the need to plan the annual
Holiday Celebration. After a brief discussion, the committee asked Ms. Crites to pursue Citrus
Bistro as the location for the party.
MILK Day of Remembrance— Ms. Longino explained the National MLK Day of Recognition will
be the 2nd week in January. She asked that everyone think about a project and make
suggestions through email.
Public Comment: Members of the audience were provided an opportunity to speak during the
meeting. They were advised to identify themselves first by stating their name and address.
They were advised that the Open Meetings Act prohibits the Senior Companion Program
Advisory Committee from responding and discussing your comments at length. The law only
authorizes them to do the following:
1. Make a statement of factual information,
2. Recite and existing policy in response to the inquiry; or
3. Advise the citizen that this subject will be places on an agenda at a later date,
4. Discuss ways about fundraising for the program.
There were no public comments.
Next Meeting—The committee decided to not have a committee meeting in December due to
the busy Holidays.
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at approximately 1:30 p.m.
