Staff present: Debbie Crites. Members absent: Veronica Suniga Approval of Minutes: November 20, 2015 minutes were presented. A motion was made and seconded (Selz/DuBois) to accept the minutes as presented. Motion carried. Old Business Fundraising Event Critique—The committee discussed what worked and what did not work at the 2015 event. The consensus of the committee is that it was a fantastic event. The food was great; having the SCP/RSVP volunteers serve was good also. The MC and Mayor Martinez did a wonderful job. It was also stated that only 1 table decorator had participated in a similar event before. However, every table was outstanding. Everyone enjoyed it, good timing of the event. Concerns expressed were that the $500-$1,000 sponsors were not visible on the tables or program as planned. Limit the speaker's time; they felt there was no need for the Parks and Recreation Director to speak. They also felt the sound system did not carry to the tables in the back. They felt the individuals taking the tables and chairs down should have waited a little while longer before they started. It was suggested to have all of the major sponsor tables towards the front and in the middle. A discussion was held whether or not to have the event again. Committee members commented that the ones who attended are already planning themes for their table for the next event. The loss of momentum if we do not have it again this year was discussed. In the event the decision is to start planning the next one, sub-committees will be put in place. The committee feels now that the ones who attended and witnessed the event, will recommit to decorating a table plus talk friends in to also participate. Before a decision is made, the committee asked Debbie Crites to meet with American Bank Center to see how much it will cost to have it there and make a report at the next meeting. Ms. Crites explained that the winners of the cross and rocking chair never picked the items up even though several messages were left. A motion was made and seconded (DuBois/Longino) to have Ms. Crites call one more time and leave a message giving them a deadline to pick the items up. If they do not pick them up by the deadline, they will be auctioned off at the next event. Motion Carried. New Business for Discussion and Possible Action: Veterans Helping Veterans—Tami Longino reported the MLK Day of Service was a success. There were several homeless vets that now have permanent housing who will benefit from the items. There was good media coverage. The volunteers did a great job gathering items. Debbie Crites announced the Nueces County Veteran Services Memo of Understanding will be presented at the February 3, 2016 Commissioners Court. Once it is signed, they can start sending referrals. She commented the MOU for the Homeless Vet department has not been signed yet. Beyond the Call of Duty Award— Ms. Crites distributed nominations. Ms. Longino asked everyone to review the nominations and email their selections for the 151 and 2nd quarters to Debbie.
