HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Senior Companion Program Advisory Committee - 08/17/2016 Senior Companion Program (SCP) Advisory Committee Regular Meeting August 17, 2016 The Port of Corpus Christi 222 Powers Corpus Christi,TX 78401 Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at approximately 11:54 noon. Roll Call of Members: Members present: Veronica Marsello, Sherry DuBois, Shirley Selz, and Shirley Tipton. Others Present: Pat Best. Staff present: Debbie Crites. Members absent: Veronica Ramirez and Tami Longino. Approval of Minutes: June 20, 2016 minutes were presented. A motion was made and seconded (DuBois/Selz) to accept the minutes as presented. Motion carried. Term Endings— Debbie Crites reported that Veronica Suniga stopped to visit. She has changed her last name to Ramirez and changed jobs. She definitely wants to serve another term on the committee. Ms. Crites distributed bios on 3 other candidates to fill 1 available position. They were Jeannine Leal, Martin Longoria and Pat Best. She stressed the fact that all 3 would make great committee members. After a lengthy conversation, it was voted to recommend Jeannine Leal's application to become a new member to replace Isabel Odeh. At this time, Shirley Selz brought up the fact that her husband's health is rapidly getting worse. She thought it would be in the best interest of the committee to recommend Pat Best to the committee to fill her term. Shirley will send a resignation letter. It was also recommended to move Veronica Marcello in the Volunteer Station position vacated by Ms. Odeh. Debbie was asked to notify the City Secretary's office with these recommendations. 911 National Day of Recognition— Ms. Crites reported everything is in place for the project. Over 40 companions are donating backed goods. We will start at the fire station on Belden. Updates Fundraising— Raffle tickets are ready to go. Still looking for an event chair. A discussion was held regarding a meeting with the SCS Advisory Committee about partnering with us on the event. Everything seeks to be on target. Public Comment: Members of the audience were provided an opportunity to speak during the meeting. They were advised to identify themselves first by stating their name and address. They were advised that the Open Meetings Act prohibits the Senior Companion Program Advisory Committee from responding and discussing your comments at length. The law only authorizes them to do the following: 1. Make a statement of factual information, 2. Recite and existing policy in response to the inquiry; or 3. Advise the citizen that this subject will be places on an agenda at a later date, 4. Discuss ways about fundraising for the program. Pat Best—Commented she will be honored to be part of the committee. She will also help with the fundraising efforts. Next Meeting—September 21. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at approximately 1:10 p.m. Minutes written by Sherry DuBois
