Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at approximately 11:45 noon.
Roll Call of Members: Members present: Veronica Marsello, Sherry DuBois, Shirley Selz, Tami
Longino, and Veronica Ramirez. Others Present: Pat Best, Isabel Odeh, Shirley Tipton. Staff
present: Debbie Crites.
Approval of Minutes: August 17, 2016 minutes were presented. A motion was made and
seconded (DuBois/Selz) to accept the minutes as presented. Motion carried.
Committee Appointments— Recommended appointments from the August 17th meeting has
been sent to the City Secretary's office. Official appointments will be made at a later City
Council meeting.
911 National Day of Recognition— Ms. Crites reported the event went well. Enough baked
goods were gathered to deliver baskets to 10 Corpus Christi Fire Departments. There was
media coverage from KIII, KRIS and KORO.
Updates
Fundraising— Ms. Crites reported that the meeting with the Senior Community Services
Advisory Committee representatives went really good. They are very interested in partnering
with SCP on the event. However, their next meeting in not until October 6th; therefore, the
amount of involvement at this late date will be limited. They did take raffle tickets to sell.
Ms. Crites express her concern that we are behind on table sponsors and raffle sales. She
reported that raffle tickets can be sold at Tuesday Morning and Lone Star Country Store.
Everything has been confirmed with ABC and parking and discount food waivers have been sent
for the City Manager's approval.
Upcoming Events—Thanksgiving Luncheon, Debbie Crites will make the arrangements.
Christmas Party, Ms. Crites will check with Citrus to get availability.
Public Comment: Members of the audience were provided an opportunity to speak during the
meeting. They were advised to identify themselves first by stating their name and address.
They were advised that the Open Meetings Act prohibits the Senior Companion Program
Advisory Committee from responding and discussing your comments at length. The law only
authorizes them to do the following:
1. Make a statement of factual information,
2. Recite and existing policy in response to the inquiry; or
3. Advise the citizen that this subject will be places on an agenda at a later date,
4. Discuss ways about fundraising for the program.
Next Meeting—There will not be a regular meeting in October The committee decided it
would be a fundraising committee only with sub-committees.
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at approximately 1:30 p.m.
