Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at approximately 11:35 p.m.
Roll Call of Members: Members present: Tami Longino, Veronica Marsello, Sherry DuBois,
Shirley Selz, and. Others Present: Shirley Tipton. Staff present: Debbie Crites. Members
absent: Veronica Ramirez, Connie Garcia. Jeannine Leal.
Approval of Minutes: September 21, 2016 minutes were presented. A motion was made and
seconded (DuBois/Selz) to accept the minutes as presented. Motion carried.
Term Endings: Debbie Crites reported that Connie Garcia resigned. Pat Best cannot serve as a
committee member because she lives out of the city limits. Veronica Ramirez will remain on
committee.
Updates: Debbie Crites reported she will be retiring on January 13, 2017.
Fundraising: Overall event went well. There are a couple of tables that will probably not be
paid.
Christmas Event: Debbie Crites checking on location. Will report back.
November Luncheon: Date to be held 11/17 at the Lindale Senior Center
Beyond the Call of Duty/Companion of Year: Debbie getting nomination forms out.
Next Event: MLK Day. We need to come up with a project.
Fundraising Proceeds/PALS: Debbie presented a list of things the committee can spend the
proceeds on. The committee decided they want to spend the funds within the year they are
raised in, with the exception of a small amount to start the next fundraising event.
Public Comment: Members of the audience were provided an opportunity to speak during the
meeting. They were advised to identify themselves first by stating their name and address.
They were advised that the Open Meetings Act prohibits the Senior Companion Program
Advisory Committee from responding and discussing your comments at length. The law only
authorizes them to do the following:
1. Make a statement of factual information,
2. Recite and existing policy in response to the inquiry; or
3. Advise the citizen that this subject will be places on an agenda at a later date,
4. Discuss ways about fundraising for the program.
Next Meeting— December 6, 2016.
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at approximately 1:00 p.m.
