Minutes for Monthly Meeting_
July 31, 2019—11:30am
The Viera Senior Living 3010 Airline Corpus Christi, Texas
1. Meeting was called to order by Lidia Lopez at 11:51am.
II. All Advisory Committee members were present: Lidia Lopez, Isabel Odeh, Linda
Alonzo. Christine Head. and Gloria Ortiz. Also present were Senior Companion
Program Staff members Jeannine Leal and Linda Ramirez. Since previous Chair
Jeannine Leal is now Program's Director, CoChair Lidia Lopez accepted position as
Chair for Advisory Committee.
III. Minutes of June 7, 2019—Isabel Odeh motioned to accept and Christine Head
seconded motion and all approved minutes.
IV. Old Business — Corrected January Minutes
a. Isabel Odeh motioned to accept and Christine Head seconded motion and all
were in favor of approving corrected Janurary 2019 minutes after last name of
Christine Head is corrected in minutes.
b. Update on committee applicants was reviewed. Linda Alonzo was welcomed as
new advisory committee member. Since it was announced that Jeannine Leal,
committee member was hired as Director of Senior Companion Volunteer
Program, there will be a vacancy that needs to be filled. Applicants Betsy Miller
and Sandra Perez have oreviousiv had favorable review by this Committee. All
Advisory members were in favor of submitting their names to City Secretary for
review by City Council.
New Business
Reviewed service proiects done on September ff" in previous vears. Discussed
option of donating baked goods—cookies, pastries to 911 operators. Since there is limited
office space in Senior Companion Program office, a smaller project, including less volunteers
could be considered. Christine Head motioned and Linda Alonzo seconded motion to accept
decision to recognize 911 operators on Sept 11t". All unanimously were in favor. Service
project will involve asking donations of baked goods/pastries from Senior Companion
Volunteers and Volunteer Stations and then delivering them to 911 Operators on September
11'j'. Senior Companion Volunteer Staff agreed to research number of 911 Operators, so
committee can know the amount of donations that will be requested. They will provide
information to this Committee during next scheduled meeting.
Program Update — It was announced that Jeannine Leal was hired as Senior
Companion Volunteer Program Director. There is the possibility that Program Office will be
moving in September, 2019.
V. Public Comment — There were no community representatives that are not official
Advisory Committee members present at today's meeting.
Vl. Next Meeting was scheduled for August 14, 2019,11:30am at the Viera Senior
Living, 3010 Airline, Corpus Christi, Texas.
Meeting was adiourned by Lidia Lopez at 12:28pm.
