CALL TO ORDER: The regular meeting of the Sister City Committee was called to order by John Rocha at 6:00 pm. II. ROLL CALL: Laura Gonzales called roll. A quorum was met with 14 of 20 members present. III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Corrections: J Seaman did not attend the October 2, 2011 meeting. It shows him as attending. Mohamad Omar moved to accept the minutes as corrected. Brandi Williams seconded the motion. The Minutes were accepted. IV. TREASURER'S REPORT: DISCUSSION ITEMS: Laura Gonzales reported that the PALS account is $9,289.50. Brandi Williams moved to accept the Treasurer's Report and Donald Russell seconded the motion. The Treasurer's report was accepted. V. PUBLIC COMMENT: None VI. DISCUSSION ITEMS: A. DISCUSSION AND ACTION on reappointment of John Rocha, Dr. Judith Prewitt, and Jeremy Coleman. John Rocha and Jeremy Coleman would like to be re- appointed. Laura will call Dr. Judith Prewitt and ask if she would like to be re- appointed also. Laura will send the re- appointments to the City Secretary's office to be placed on the City Council Agenda for consideration B. DISCUSSION AND ACTION on appointment of two new members. Tim Dowling nominated Westi Horn. Meredith Delano nominated William Kramer. Alan Thornburg nominated Kelly Kimball. The Committee voted for Westi Horn — 14, William Kramer — 5 and Kelly Kimball — 10. Laura will send the names of Westi Horn and Kelly Kimball to the City Secretary's Office to be sent to council as the Committee's recommendations for new members. C. DISCUSSION AND ACTION on delegating a member of the Sister City Committee to sit on the Nueces County Community Action Board. Jeremy Coleman gave an overview of the Nueces County Community Action Board and their desire to have a member of the Sister City Committee to sit on their board. Andi Baker volunteered to become a part of the Nueces County Community Action Board. D. DISCUSSION AND ACTION on proposed fundraising activities. The Volunteer Task group met and discussed some possible ideas for fundraising. Some of the ideas include: A bake sale at City Hall in December and February, a Taste of Sister City — a food festival that would showcase the current Sister City cities that we are paired with, Sister City Under the Stars — A gala with food and drink, and being a part of the Asian Cultures Museum Holiday Festival on December 10, 2011. E. DISCUSSION AND ACTION on validity of keeping the Art Competition. Elena Mendez moved to eliminate the Art Competition for the 2012 year unless grant funds are received to fund the Art Competition. JR Seaman seconded the motion. The vote was 13 — For and 1 opposed. The motion passed. F. DISCUSSION AND ACTION on what percentage the students will pay for the exchange Tabled G. DISCUSSION AND ACTION on where to have the Christmas Party. The Christmas Party will be held at the home of Westi Horn, 7637 Rockspring, on December 5 ". It will take place after the regular meeting. VII. Liaison Reports A. Yokosuka, Japan — No Report B. Agen, France — No Report C. Keelung, Taiwan — No Report D. Monterrey, Mexico — No Report E. Toledo, Spain — No Report F. Playa del Carmen — No Report VIII. Task Manager Reports A Publicity Reports — No Report B. Curriculum /Training — The student training will be held April 15, 22, and 29. C. Fundraising — No Report D. Art Competition — No Report E. New Sister City Evaluation — No Report F. Activities —.Liz Garza is the new Chair for this Task Group G. Student Selection — On November 14, the Galvan House will be open to the parents of any potential new exchange students. Our current exchange students and their parents will be at the Open House to answer any questions the parents /students might have. It will be from 7pm — 9pm H. Pen Pal — No Report I. Student Service — On December 2, 5 of the students will work the First Friday Art Walk to complete their commitment for community service. IX. IDENTIFY ITEMS TO BE PLACED ON NEXT AGENDA — A. DISCUSSION AND ACTION on update on the database of the Sister City alumni X. GENERAL CHAIR'S REPORT: None XI. ADJOURNMENT: Donald Russell moved to adjourn and Brandi Williams seconded the motion.
