I. CALL TO ORDER:
The regular meeting of the Sister City Committee was called to order by Brandi Williams at 6:00
pm.
II. ROLL CALL: Laura Gonzales called roll. A quorum was met with 12 of 20 members present.
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Corrections: Under VII- Change "send" to "sent" and "on" to "for"
Donald Russell moved to accept the minutes. Alan Thornburg seconded the motion. The
minutes were accepted.
IV. TREASURER'S REPORT: DISCUSSION ITEMS: Laura Gonzales reported that the PALS
account is $11,456.84. Donald Russell moved to accept the Treasurer's Report and Meredith
Delano seconded the motion. The Treasurer's report was accepted.
V. PUBLIC COMMENT: None
VI. DISCUSSION ITEMS:
A. DISCUSSION AND ACTION on adding an Alumni Task Group. Donald Russell moved to
table all Discussion and Action Items until the March Meeting. Andi Baker seconded the
motion. The motion passed.
B. DISCUSSION AND ACTION on a letter to Sister City Alumni. Tabled until March
C. DISCUSSION AND ACTION on possibly celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Sister
City Relationship with Yokosuka. Tabled until March
VII. Liaison Reports
A. Yokosuka, Japan — No Report
B. Agen, France — No Report
C. Keelung, Taiwan — No Report
D. Monterrey, Mexico — Dr. Prewitt will talk to Heather and find out what was done in the
past with Monterrey. She will also try to find a contact to start communications with
Monterrey.
D. Toledo, Spain — Dr. Prewitt will work with her colleagues in the Math Department at
Texas
A &M to try to get an exchange started with Toledo
F. Playa del Carmen — Discussed possibly getting involved with the Pen Pal Task Group
and start a Pen Pal exchange with Playa del Carmen. Elena is still trying to find a
contact person to start communications with.
VIII. Task Manager Reports
A Publicity Reports — Liz is working on contacting the news stations to get interviews with
Ericka and Vegas to help publicize the Sister City Committee.
B. Curriculum /Training — The dates for the student training will be April 1, 15, and 22.
The training will be held at the Galvan House.
E. Fundraising — We will have a bake sale at City Hall on Thursday, Feb 9 Committee
members are asked to bake or buy Valentine goodies and put them in treat bags.
Baked goods can be dropped off at Yvette's house on Wednesday after 5:30pm. There
are two shifts that will need to be covered that day. 11 -12:30 and 12:30 -2:00.
E. New Sister City Evaluation — No Report
F. Activities — The Hooks have already committed to donated tickets. Letters are going
out for donations for the Student Activities.
G. Student Selection — 6 students applied. Interviews will be on Feb 9 starting at 10:30am.
Those who will be interviewing the students will need to be at the Galvan House at
10am.
I. Student Service — No Report
J. Pen Pal — No Report

XI. ADJOURNMENT: Brandi Williams moved to adjourn and Elena Mendez seconded
the motion. The meeting was adjourned at 6:34 pm.
