I. CALL TO ORDER:
The regular meeting of the Sister City Committee was called to order by Heather Moretzsohn at
6:02 pm.
II. ROLL CALL: Tess Allan called roll. A quorum was met with 12 members present.
The new Sister City Committee members, Misaki Berrios, Coretta Graham, John
Maldonado, and Luci Walker introduced themselves.
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Donald Russell moved to accept the minutes as submitted. Hailey
Kimball seconded. Minutes were approved.
IV. FINANCIAL REPORT: Current Available Funds is $4,629.75
V. PUBLIC COMMENT: none
VI. NEW BUSINESS:
Toledo Exchange — Intensive Spanish Course
Heather Moretzsohn announced that Toledo offered a student exchange that allowed for free
tuition for an Intensive Spanish Course in Toledo. Mary Beth Davis, a student from TAMUCC,
will be going and there is a student at Del Mar who is also interested in going. Discussion
centered on the logistics of this partnership.
City Liaison Appointments
Yvonne Fernandez agreed to be the Toledo, Spain Liaison and John Sloan agreed to be the
Monterrey, Mexico Liaison.
High School Counselor Luncheon
John Sloan led the discussion for hosting a luncheon for High School Counselors to raise
awareness of the Sister City Exchange in hopes of increasing the number of student
applications.
VII. OLD BUSINESS:
Del Mar Small Business Development Council/Global Trade Section Expo
Heather announced that only one adult fee will be waived for Sister City. Donald Russell
agreed to be the SCC Representative if the students were not able to attend and Luci Walker
volunteered to be the backup if needed. The Expo will be held Wednesday, August 6th from 4 to
6 pm.
Sister City Gifts
Tumlinson photography will have the pictures completed by June 6th. John Sloan will bring to
City Staff who will wrap the gifts for shipping and have ready in Mayor's office for Westi to pick
up along with the Mayor's gifts.
VIII. Liaison Reports
A. Yokosuka, Japan — Westi reported that Japan has selected two students, one boy and
one girl. Hudson leaves for Japan on July 4th. Their students will arrive July 22nd and leave
the morning of August 6th. Heather will host the female student.
B. Agen, France — Mark reported that Agen will send two girls. Our student will travel to Agen
on June 26th and will return with the Agen students on July 17th. Heather has been in
contact with the parents in Agen.
C. Keelung, Taiwan — No new report - Taiwan has selected one boy and one girl. Our
student, Sam Barre, will travel to Keelung on June 30th and will return with the Keelung
students on July 18th
D. Playa del Carmen — John Sloan will be visiting Playa del Carmen in June and has a
meeting with their fire chief and committee on the 18th at 10:00 am. He will deliver the
shirts, letters from the Port and copies of the original Sister City agreement to them at that
time.
IX. Task Manager Reports
A. Publicity Reports —Yvonne has created a press release for the Car wash and saved it so
that it can be used in future years as well. There will not be a Stripes press conference this
year.
B. Social Media/Website — Coretta Graham agreed to take over the Social Media task. Mark
Bradsher announced that a photographer has agreed to take photos of some of the student
activities pro-bono and that those photos should be good to use on our Website and Social
Media.
C. Curriculum/Training — John Sloan will check to see if Megan Turner ever met with the
Frazier's for the required training.
D. Fundraising — The car wash raised $293. Only two of the three students showed up and
only 4 of the pre-sale tickets were sold. It was suggested that in the future students are
given a set fundraising goal and fundraising activities will continue until the goal is met.
E. New Sister City Evaluation — two new Sister City suggestions were made, one for Linz,
Austria and one for a city in Nigeria.
F. Activities —Alan announced that the activities are mostly planned.
G. Selection — None
H. Pen Pal — None
I. Student Service — None
J. Historian — Request to remove this item

XII. ADJOURNMENT: Hailey Kimball moved to adjourn the meeting. Westi Horn seconded. The
meeting was adjourned at 7:03 pm.
